upcoming pokemon gen 4 romhacks

a while ago there was that really big gamefreak leak, and id heard a lot of the source code for gen 4 and 5 was leaked, does that mean we'll start to see more super in depth hacks for those games? things like adding pokemon from future gens and stuff? or are they just not as accessible for modding as gen 3

Your thread title is a bit misleading. A lot of people are probably going to be checking this thread because it looks like an actual announcement of upcoming hacks.

For starters, I expect that any project that can be definitively shown to have used the leaked source code would be particularly vulnerable to a takedown notice, so developers might be eager to steer clear of it.

I'm not sure the source code is necessarily all that useful to begin with. Did someone actually demonstrate that there were build tools included with the source code that could be used to generate a ROM identical to the released version?

A major portion of a project like that would probably involve a lot of difficult and time-consuming re-formatting of the art and other assets to make it suitable for older generations. The source code wouldn't be useful there.

But this is just speculation.

I don't know if the source code leaks helped at all but there is an in progress ROM hacking base that adds moves, pokemon, abilities, and mechanics like mega evolution from later pokemon generations to HeartGold: HG-Engine. And I saw at least one ROM hack already out that uses it.
