Since the mass-storage option/use it is already built in the firmware (for system update) i'm wondering if messing with system configuration files could drive to hacks unlocking this feature on our beloved device.

Tons of gigabytes of cheap storage :-)

Come one now, as soon as I read the title I could tell it was some noob fantasizing about possibility...

Like the plenty of "TN-V on Henkaku" titled threads :rofl2:

I have a 1tb portable drive I could use with this
$100 for 64gb is crazy
I bought seagate 2tb external drive for just 90$ & its with 1year warranty. It works super fast 90mbps read/write speed. Sony is surly expensive for memory. Thats why they are about to ruin themselves soon.

It's not really that the memory is expensive, it's just that they use a proprietary format memory card. Proprietary format = only maker on the market, no competition with other maker = they choose the price and no one can do anything about it. So except if someone RE the mem cards and creates some kind of micro SD > mem card adapter, the price won't decrease anytime soon™.

I don't think someone could make that small adapter for micro sd card & who told sony to make there own memcard? If they want there stock to be sold good. They should think small. Not big like apple!

iirc I read some time ago that it was to make piracy harder. This actually resulted in being one of the things people hate the most and the main reason why some people don't buy this console, but oh well.

Not some!!! Lot! Nintendo sold 40mill 3ds stock. While sony sold 4mill vita stock. They (Sony) know they are doomed on the vita section. Still they raise up price of vita stock for nothing just peanuts!

Well, they have been making their own propietary memory cards since 1998...

Memory Stick
Memory Stick PRO
Memory Stick DUO
Memory Stick Micro (M2)
Memory Stick PRO-HG
Vita Memory card

Is not like they came out with these idea this last generation :p

Inventing a new pinout and changing the form factor in as minimal a fashion as possible is significantly worse than any of the crap they had done before.
Come on Sony, you already used M2 in the PSP Go! It's the same shape!

From my understanding, you can only update the firmware with USB if you boot into safe mode (not sure how the FW sees it when fully loaded).
However, I do agree I'd much rather spend $50 on a 1tb HDD then $100 on a 64gb card....

I think that with rw access to system files and IDU mode it's only matter of time to figure out how to activate/patch the usb driver implemented by Sony for system update.

Sorry for the thread title, i see that looks like an affirmation and not a wishful thinking..
