I guess they must have been doing what the Pokémon crew did with Red and Blue back then to fit all that dialogue on the cartridge.

It was literally made with an app that makes gameboy games and considering the rom size they could easily add more content. The problem is that both sprites and music had to be custom made unlikethe copy and paste plus filter approach of other ports.

Besides GB Studio there is other options but GB Studio is easy to use.

Hey everyone, I wanted to post an update here regarding the status of this Undertale 3ds demake. This is a really tough one for me to write, and I’ve wrestled with the fact for many weeks

I’ve been trying with the absolute best intentions to keep development afloat through various life struggles since the start of this project, more notably during the past year or so. But honestly, with a cascade of sudden life circumstances all over the place, I have hit a wall where I literally cannot keep working on it the way I want to. I don’t remember if I have mentioned this in the thread but, I got into university last month, and I start next monday, and with the reality of heading into university and faculty requirements… I’m feeling really stuck

It feels awful honestly, I can barely even write this, and it hurts me deeply to leave this beloved project behind. I’ve poured nearly 3 years into this, and I care about it immensely because it has taught me so much and so many things I wouldn’t be able to fit them all in here, which is why I wanted to be transparent about how hard I've tried to keep it going before having to take this decision.

The project will be cut short, and I will be stepping back.

Here is what’s happening moving forward:

- My goal now is to bring the demake up to the standard of the original Undertale demo going through the Ruins, and after that is done, I will step back personally

- Very soon, not sure when but soon, I will be making the project open source. Everyone will be free to use the code for your own projects, fork it, or keep working on it however you see fit so the project can live on

- I might still tinker with or contribute to small scale 3ds things here and there, but it’ll be very sparse

- Once the demo is wrapped up, my focus will shift entirely toward school and maybe working on an original game eventually

The project's Discord server isn't going anywhere either, it's just transitioning into a general space for my future projects and youtube channel

I want to say a massive thank you to everyone here on GBATemp for the incredible support and encouragement over the years. Every single one of you guys genuinely means the absolute world to me, and I've met so many amazing people through this. Life's tough, but I'm deeply grateful for everything everyone has done for me

My love for the 3ds, for Undertale, and for this project and the homebrew community will not fade, this is happening because my hands are tied and I realistically cannot keep actively working on this. I wanted to keep going, I really did, but the roadblocks are too big, and leading me no other choice than to keep walking on the other side

I'll post another update here as soon as the demo is finalized and the github repository goes live. Thank you all for understanding

I’m sorry I couldn’t keep my promise.

I’m not crying! You’re crying!
Dang... Didn't think it would be over so soon.

Thank you for all of the hard work and sleepless nights you've had to go through for this project. It's been a huge inspiration for me. Good luck at university, and good luck wherever you decide to go afterwards.

I wish you the best!
