My friend drop off his Wii that is now in Japanese.
This is screwed. Does anyone know why the whole Wii would now have 4.0J on it.
He said he followed the instructions exactly, which obviously he didnt.
The bad thing is everything he had Homebrew Channel, Wads, everything is gone.
Its seems to be straight 4.0 in Japanese. Preloader is there but cant go to homebrew it says its not installed.

Please help...What do I do???
We already said run cIOS Downgrader again and choose the right region. then use the Waninkoko Updater
if using offline be sure to pick the right version number (417 for 4.0U)

How do I run it if I dont have the Homebrew Channel anymore? Do I have to start from scratch?

Thanks for you help.
I will try this out tonight.
Ive always only done the Twilight Hack.

I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

Hello.
I did the offline upgrade method but after i finished everything. I went to the wii settings and checked the Firmware Version and still said 3.2U instead of 4.0.

Is this normal? Or did I do something wrong.

NOTE:When I did Step 5, its had an error that said something like "init_failed" Is this normal? If not then how can I fix it, I tried running it again but it still had the same error.

Thanks.

Did you...sync it with your Wii first? Just to be sure you know, wiimotes don't automatically sync with any Wii thats on. You have to press the red sync button under the battery cover of the wiimote you want to sync while the wii is on and the wiimote has batteries, then press the red sync button in the sd card flap on the system. Then when the lights stop flashing it should be synced.

If you already did that then I'm not quite sure what would be stopping it from syncing.

Edit: Also what screen are you trying to sync it at?

Hey guys I have a problem. When I upgrade mi 3.2 wii using everything provided here, the channels i put on the SD card menu get erased. Any tips?

You shouldn't HAVE an sd card menu unless you're on 4.0 to begin with...and then after that if you remove the things on your sd card to do the upgrade you have to put them back to still keep them. What channels are you talking about though? VC games and such? Those should be on your sd card in a folder called private I think. Make sure you're not deleting that folder or they won't be on the menu anymore.

Clarify what you mean about the SD card menu though. That menu does not exist on any firmware but 4.0. Unless you're talking about some other menu.

Yes i make all this things but dont work.
The screen its the preloader menu.
Because when i turn on the wii its the firs to show and i can´t go to any more screens because i diden´t have the control synchronis.
If a buy a game cub control i can´t shows the things in menu or just with the wii control?

Oh yea that...I think that's a bug that happens if you sync your wiimote to another wii or if it hasn't been sync'd to your wii yet, and you didn't set preloader to autoboot yet. You can't sync your wiimote's in the preloader menu. I think you need to get a GC controller and use that to get to the system menu and then resync your wiimotes.

I have a v3.1E wii with wiikey1 (1.9s), bootmii installed as boot2 and have made a nand backup. Is it safe to follow this guide to update to v4.0E or should I update to v3.2 first?

Thanks

Well technically...following the guide to update would have you get yourself to 3.2 first and then update to 4.0 so uhh...both?

Also as long as that nand.bin is legit you're pretty much safe regardless.

Oh sorry I didn't specify! I upgraded FROM my 3.2 TO a 4.0 menu and the SD card menu thing erased every channel I put in once i took my sd card out.
I didn't erase anything once I took the SD card out, I know that the private folder keeps all that data

Please help!

Really good guide, I've read it and I want to ask something.
I'm on 3.4U and already have installed the HBC and cIOS38 rev13 using another guide.

What are the wads 01-18, do I need them for something?
What would be the steps to update to system menu 4 and is worth it? It wont damage anything?
I installed BootMii but it was the installation that is done on the SD not on NAND, Would it be best to install preloader to protect myself against Bricks or is it the same?

Thank You.

Offline Downgrade/Upgrade

Prerequisites:
--SD card
--Unplug any Gamecube Memory Cards, Gamecube Controllers, USB Devices
--Read the FAQ and be prepared with a general knowledge of Wii Homebrew

http://www.mediafire.com/?mpdy1qmzlgm (05-20-2009)

This package contains instructions on how to acquire the necessary files from Nintendo to do an offline update
This package will work on ANY Wii! Virgin or Nintendo Official Updated without cios!!

1) Extract the files somewhere on your hard drive such as C:\wii\ and run prepare.bat

2) Check that the WAD files are correct with MooSFV. If any files are not correct run clean.bat and start over

3) Make sure there is no cioscorp folder and rename your old private folder. Copy the contents inside the sd folder to the root of your SD card

If you already have the Homebrew Channel you may skip steps 4-8 follow steps A-B
If you already have the Homebrew Channel AND cIOS installed you may skip to step 10
Otherwise continue with 4-8 and skip A-B

4) Insert the SD card in the Wii and go to Data Management>Channels>SD Card press YES on the dialog box that asks to load boot.dol

5) Choose SD card and load CMDVDX35.dol. Then choose Downgrade IOS35. It might say network error just ignore it and choose Exit

6) Load boot.dol again using bannerbomb and choose WAD-Manager_v1.4.dol. Choose IOS35 and install IOS35-64-v1040.wad then restart

8) Run WAD-Manager_v1.4.dol using bannerbomb again. Choose IOS35 and install HomebrewChannel.wad then restart

---------------------------------------

A) Run CMDVDX35 and choose Downgrade IOS35. It might say network error just ignore it and choose Exit

B) Run WAD Manager choose IOS35 and install IOS35-64-v1040.wad then restart

----------------------------------------

9) If you do not have cIOS installed yet Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 choose IOS35 and install cios_fix.wad then restart

10) Run cIOS36_rev10-Installer and choose WAD Installation

11) Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 again. Choose IOS249 and install WADs 01-18. If WAD Manager freezes during installation just try again from the WAD it froze on.

12) While still in WAD Manager install SystemMenuv###.wad

13) Run preloaderv0.29-cred and press 1 to install

14) Hold reset while powering on to access preloader and set preloader settings. In preloader hacks enable "Skip disc update check"

15) If you installed the Homebrew Channel using a WAD run the HomebrewChannel Installer to fix the installation

All of this i don't understand...like ALL of them. i done 1 , but 2 - 15 is where i have problems.
2 - 3 i dont really get it. why should i check it?
4- 8 is really easy. no problem
A-B when i done 4 -8, do i suppose to do A-B too?
9 - 15 =
9 i dont have the install cios_fix.wad where should i get this?
10 -15 i don't get what do do then. i get errors mostly.
