he's right thought... You don't buy a car if you don't know how to drive it, and then ask the vendor "hey teach me how to drive pls"
And OP said :

You can easily brick your system if you don't know what you're doing.
Trying to install notmal HM (downloaded woth 3DNUS not renamed or anything) will give me the same error.
(Title exists)

But I want both screens... what's going on there...

@Zan' It might be related to your CFW or your nand, because I'm using a9lh and Luma3ds (sysnand) and it's working fine.
I am using A9LH with Luma3DS 5.3.1 and launching EmuNAND.

You didn't change the Top screen section.
You could just use the replace all function and use the provided Color Hex.

Did anyone figure out Button editing and Text Color editing?
Like the Crimson3DS from here

Like the Crimson3DS from http://www.homemenu.
The text ist very hard to find because there are so many hex like FFFFFF but I think I found them.

Hmmm...seems I need to do this for my 3DS on sleep mode and slap my contact info onto it.

I wish there was a way to entirely bypass it (I know, the quick shutdown program - but that sometimes takes longer than I want)...

Well on http://www.homemenu.co is a theme with text color and button changes.

Tried it on sysNAND and same problem.
I found the half of it, must manage if the custom text is available to edit too in different colors. For these two I found are four different HEX you must change. They're in different offsets.

Looks really nice what you did there.

No, its my previous working sleep_lz custom one and the one from the homemenu site. But sure, let me finish my research first and I'll share both with you.

It is. Looking at the Hex colors (#171717 [Dark Gray] / #C20000 [Crimson Red]) and the overly excessive changes. Yes these are my changes.

Yes, I only must find the button on the bottom screen too. Because I want to remove the white round background of it.

I found all important stuff for editing colors (If you don't know what that means, don't ask for it):

Code:
Sleep_LZ.bin

00000450 (Hex 03 - 05) - Color
00000450/60 (Hex 0F - 01) - Color
00000460 (Hex 0B - 0D) - Color
00000B10 (Hex 03 - 05) - Color
00000B10/20 (Hex 0F - 01) - Color
00000B20 (Hex 0B - 0D) - Color
00001220 T_Btm_00 - Color
00001260 T_Btm_00 - Color
00001260 (Hex 04 - 06) - Color
000012F0 T_Top_00 - Color
00001CD0 P_Bg_D_00 (Hex 00 - 08) - Color
00001330/40 (Hex 07 - 08) - Color
000013E0 - 00001400 (0F - 00) - Color
000014A0 - 000014B0 (Hex 07) - Color
000014D0 (Hex 04) - 000014E0 (Hex 0B) - Color
00001550 (Hex 04 - 06) - Color

Change Button on the bottom screen/lines & text on both screens

000016D0/E0 P_BtnL_01 (Hex 0F - 01)
000018F0 P_LineBtm_00 (Hex 07 - 09)
00001970 T_Btm_00 txt1 (Hex 07 - 09)
00001B10/20 B_Btn_01 (Hex 0F - 01)
00001D70 T_Top_00 (Hex 00 - 02)
00001DA0 T_Main_00 (Hex 04 - 06)
00001E20 P_LineTop_00 (Hex 04 - 06)
00002170 T_Btm_00 (Hex 03 - 05)
00002210 P_LineTop_00 (Hex 0B - 0D)

For the camera banner, you need to edit it directly from the camera's cia
I know but I need a program to do it, and I putted those just for an example, I want to translate all system banners the 2D and 3D rotating ones. And there is no banner.bin in the Game Notes extracted files, just icon.bin (I translated the whole "Game Notes" text, all I need for a 100% translation is to show "Notatki Gry" in the banner title, with means "Game Notes" in Polish).
OK I figured out that the "Game Notes" banner name is not a banner, and it can by changed in the "menu_msbt_LZ.bin" file in HOME Menu:

I've opened the EUR version of Nintendo 3DS Camera "banner.bnr" with "3dsexplorer_v1.5.3", got "banner.bnr.cgfx", opened in "Ohana3DS Rebirth", and got only the Japanese version:

Where is the ENG version, please help. (the only file with english in the name is "EU_English.LZ" in Nintendo 3DS Camera\ExtractedRomFS\msg).
