I probably can not work on the patch after this month, so I gave @ils permission to edit the OP.
So sad to hear that. Can you help us to make a tool for Trails in the Sky 3rd PSP version? It would be nice if someone could import the text from english PC version into the japanese PSP version.

@julialy is there hope for getting those terms swapped out in the scena and running it through ATLAS before you need to go, or does @ils have access to ATLAS? The superior translation would really make all the difference.

I just tried the patch playing the prologue and it works fine, I would like to thank Julialy, Ils, Fugsnarf and everyone involved with this effort, I think this patch could suffice until the final translation comes.

please keep in mind i can't guarantee it won't crash (my game crashed once yesterday, dunno why)

hey thanks for everything
that translate-shell really helps alot :grog:

Anyway to use this patch for the PC version?

i don't think so, sorry
you could try download the scena here and extract to the PC version scena?
though i don't know if it'll work

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gHGkErL3s_5dfue1uZ9ZvU0SyqisP8JiYOnNmtvvpw8

I made a Google doc with lists of Trails words in Japanese and English. I don't speak Japanese, but I know the basics of how its writing system works so I referenced wikis and kitsune's translation to double check on translations. If a word was translated by Google perfectly, I left it alone. Due to that, some names and things are left out intentionally.

I took care not to include words that could have double meanings or where the kana could be a part of a different word -- since Japanese has no spaces to differentiate if it's a part of a word or a word in itself. Guardian Force and Renne fall into those two categories. Most of those shouldn't be a big deal though. And as far as I could, I went with official translations from the games themselves. So it's Łazy and Noël, for example. And the elemental sepiths you see in the Misc page are there for chests. You can see where those can go wrong in a screenshot just several comments above. Mostly Mirage and Space need manual translations but I figure covering your bases doesn't hurt.

Since all of these are just nouns, it shouldn't mess with any translating since the translator will just treat them as foreign word nouns and parse the grammar accordingly.

If anyone can think of anything to add to the list, feel free to comment here or message me. Since kitsune's translation leaves a lot of holes, I wanted to cover everything which is why I included things like ouroboros and their terms, but right now I've kinda hit a wall in my brain and I've gotta go to work. Also if you know the Japanese and something looks off or clearly would cause issues, please speak up on that too.

Thanks!
try this new patch, it should add your list of jargon from Trails (though not all of them)
PSP with Voice Patch
PSP without Voice Patch

if there's no crash/major bug, i think this will be my last release

still cheering up for geofront/guren release though
Cheers

@ils inserting the scena into the PC version works. So if you could keep uploading that with any update you may make I'd appreciate it since that's my preferred way to play.

It does not, however, include any of the item or skill translations from the PSP patch. I assume the method of insertion would be just about as easy, but I don't know what files they'd be.
Nevermind. It's the data\text folder. I extracted it myself and tested it out in the PC version.

So if you could add that to your updates along with the scena that'd be appreciated.

Also for some reason it's putting Space sepith as Wind sepith in that first chest in Altair Lodge. I just checked it to see if my jargon was working or not.

FYI: You can move saves between the PSP and PC versions of the game.

If you are using PPSSPP, make sure EncryptSave in (ppsspp config directory)/PSP/SYSTEM/ppsspp.ini is set to False, and re-save your save data.

From there, you can move saves between (ppsspp config directory)/PSP/SAVEDATA and (pc version directory)/savedata
Make sure to fix the case on savedata.dat if you are on a case-sensitive filesystem (PSP files is all uppercase while PC files is all lowercase)

Just thought this was hilarious.

A lot of my words do seem to have gone through, but some not. Orbal car, for instance is translating as "guided car" instead of what I put. Is there any rhyme or reason to why some of the words did not get put in @ils ?

yeah, Orbal Car is one of a few i skipped
it's was midnight and i edit it manually using Excel
that "Space" become "Wind" was also my mistake.
i'll try to patch it later. it's not major but kinda annoying to look at LOL

that PC version looks so good.. damn...

i wonder what will happen if i load voice patched savedata
maybe i'll try it later if i have enough save files in my own playthrough

Shit you did all that manually? I thought you'd just run a script to do it for you.

nope, the translation need to be edited manually
then my script can pick it up and create the new scena.py

Code:
find . -name ¥*.bin.py -exec sed -i -e 's/guided car/orbal car/g' ¥;

too bad, i didn't use linux (i assume this is linux command)
also not all "Orbal Car" translated into "guided car"
Google Translate sometime translate it into others and i need to manually change 1/1 (dunno there's a faster way to do this)
for example : Arc en Ciel -> Arkane Shell or Arcane Shell or Arkan Shell

using Excel i can find the Japanese string and check 1/1 which one i need to edit

If you are on Windows 10, you can use Windows Subsystem for Linux
If you are other Windows, you can use Cygwin
You can also use a virtual machine or dual-boot
Vagrant is an easy way to get a developer environment up https://www.vagrantup.com/

So for the sake of persistence, how much would I have to pay you to run the scena+my jargon through ATLAS?

Can translate shell be used with a different translation service?

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english_japanese/ is really probably the closest you'll get to a professional machine TL using a website translation service like this. julialy mentioned site traffic possibly being an issue, but I think it'd be worth a shot for the vastly superior translation if it actually can work with the tool.

translate-shell doesn't work with that service.

Any machine translation would work better if I can get whole chunks of text, instead of line by line.

i think the main problem is the lines translated separately
if we combine the lines first, i think the translation quality will be better
i never tried other translation services other than Google and i don't intent to do it again, sorry

however if you want to translate it, i've shared my Excel
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15-MDUtegfS98epntvNY5gYQkKgmVOIdnf7FpMT5DN4g/edit?usp=sharing
this is most of the strings still in Japanese after applying kitsune's translation

@ils Well it seems to be to be a fool's errand to try matching up the lines together. I added the rest of my jargon terms and uploaded the sheet.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-K46SglxLmAKDeaAgYz7EeC1NXck0LrL5t9CKa568Us

Once you finish compiling all of this, I think it's safe to say it's not likely to get much better. Please also post the scena and text folders for the PC version if you would when you're done.

[Update]

I've updated the spreadsheet and polished it up a little more. A few terms came to mind to add -- Estelle, Selge, Rege, Arge. Estelle seemed to only translate right half the time, so I went in and fixed it. Then I decided to polish up some quality of life stuff. For example, instead of the orbment charging stations or inns saying "To take a break here" they say "Rest here", or instead of chests saying things like "I got it" it just says "found." Stuff like that. Overall, I think the spreadsheet is as polished as it can get for what it is.
