Gaming Touchscreen only games now allowed?

I figured that this (and TV only) could happen, I didn't know it would happen so soon.
If enough touchscreen only or at least optional touchscreen only controls games are made, you could even leave your Joy Cons at home.
I really doubt Pokemon wouldn't have Tv mode.
Yeah, if it didn't then Nintendo would be hurting sales as there would be backlash for not having a TV mode. The NS needs to have a traditional Pokémon RPG and none of that Pokkén crap (okay, it's good but not as replayable/long as a Pokémon RPG title).

Switch's screen looks stunningly crisp so I can't imagine how marvellous it'd be to have like, "Pokémon Blue" remake in HD. Just totally awesome!

I don't think it would hurt sales too much, but it would be a very miss and obvious opportunity. Besides, having TV mode would only help sales and there's no reason why it couldn't be on TV.

Everyone do what Ashley does and drop your new Switch gear on the floor and swing your $30 to replace charger around in the air to get those electrons flowing.

Why would it hinder a console meant for dual purposes to have a game only portable or only tv mode? People bring this up, but I'm pretty sure most of them won't even play the game in question. It's like putting an ugly couch in your house...It's in the right place, but it's so ugly. It doesn't really seem to matter, but it still bothers you in the corner of your mind. (Probably not the best way of explaining it, but you get the point.) If there are games that are portable and use the touchscreen, I think power to them. It's pretty much a tablet, why not? Anything else, why care?

I am not saying I am totally against it but it does make things more complex. On an individual basis it is not really a problem knowing how each game plays, but from the forest view it makes things confusing. Oh crap here I am out and about and I cant play the game I wanted to. Goes against the message Nintendo has been sending.

In addition there can be potentially thousands of these games, far dwarfing the console level games. Becomes more known another tablet with some sticks and buttons than console gaming on the TV or on the go. Message and branding is important and confusion helped sink the Wii U.

Although this is all inevitable, the timing seems really bad as it hasn't been released yet and branding established in the wider public minds.

It's more the tv only thing that would hurt the play anywhere thing. For touchscreen only games like Voez you could simply undock and still play on the couch unlike having to go home(or a friends house maybe) to play a tv only game. I still do hope it doesn't turn into another Wii U though.
 
I hope they'd at least have a TV mode. So if let's say Super Mario Mak2r was released, I hope for the course maker it was tablet mode. And then for TV mode you could play games on the big screen. It'd suck if it was ONLY tablet mode.

It's not like Voez where it's impossible to play not on the touch screen, I think your fine XD
 
If DS games comes to the Virtual Console, they can only be played in portable mode, similar to how they can only be played on the Wii U in off-TV mode only. Although the Switch won't be able to display the top screen on a TV, unlike the Wii U.

It would be dumb from a technical standpoint to do ONLY TV MODE, I can see it with only touch mode which I think is just fine, you can't touch your TV Screen. But ONLY TV MODE? nah, The system itself permits any TV Mode software to run on handheld mode
 
I personally welcome this, the more freedom the developers have, the larger variety of games there will be to accommodate everybody's preferred playing style. I can't get into specifics but there's a lot of strange restrictions that indie developers have to face when it comes to Wii U development (that too me doesn't make a whole lot of sense). I imagine the same also goes for 3DS development, although I never delved into that.... Will there be some shovelware? Of course, there's really no avoiding that, but I think giving developers more freedom will also result in a lot of really unique and good games as well. To me the outweighs the shovelware lol.
 
I wonder if they'll consider creating games for Portrait play only now. I had floated this idea a few months ago (along with a few other ideas) for a possible adapter to connect to a Joycon port:

The image I used was Mario Run, which obviously wouldn't even need a special controller. But if the right game came along for portrait mode that also was more intensive than just needing the touch screen to play, then I'd hope they'd consider such an attachment, especially since now we know that games don't have to be playable in docked mode if the gameplay calls for it.
This sort of controller could allow 3DS and Wii U games (cut the screen in half, bottom half = touch screen / GamePad)

But perhaps the 3ds part will have to be saved till A. the 3ds dies and ninty does this or the more likely B. when the system gets modded(it's inevetaby bound to happen in time, and lot's of it if needed) and modders set up citra or some other means of runing 3ds games on there. Has anyone found out what aretecture the switch runs on yet being arm, x86, ect..
 
i rarely play on my phone, and i loathe playing smartphone games.

it's not made for gaming, small type of games to kill time is okay imo.

but the thought that they may come up with many mobile type of games for the switch is weird , i myself will stay away from them.

i hope that Mobile games will never take over handhelds , that's my only worry :l

i prefer gaming on my vita/3ds over playing on my smartphone (i own a 6p) i tried liking gaming on smartphone, but it just does not feel comfortable and just does not feel like some actual game.
 
Maybe shooters never should have moved to dual-analog controls, then, because that certainly took time to get used to. Hell, let's just never do anything new that our brains have to adjust to and instead just make games all the same so we don't have to adjust to doing things different purely for the sake of not having to get used to something new. Fuck brain plasticity.

The thing that bothers me about your statement..? Dual-Analog controls for the FPS games actually WORKS. It wasn't a gimmick, like forced motion controls, and it was far more comfortable. Going back to beating the dead horse (Star Fox Zero) and saying that motion controls should not have been forced down our throats. It isn't a matter of "getting used to it".

It's common sense to give us an OPTION. Especially in this area. To just say "Fuck you and everything you know about what star fox was, here's something to mess everything up" the way they did? Not right. To also come and defend it is also a pretty stupid thing to do. It's a lot like stating that gimmicks should be a thing.

Y'know? Like Glasses-less 3D from the 3DS? Because it was so necessary for the games at any point in time.. Wait... No, it wasn't.. What about motion controls in general? Well, they're fun in some games.. It's cool to swing the controller around like a sword, but to try and bring it to a series that never really had it (not counting Star Fox 3D) is risky.

Back to dual-analog controls... The FPS genre was something weird on consoles for the longest time. You ever try to play Quake Arena on the dreamcast, or even the older Turok games on the N64? When you finally got the hang of things, it was fun.. but not practical. To give us analog movement with aiming was a god send. Not to mention it paved the way for better controls in other genres.. Like racing, open world adventure/rpg and so on and so forth...

Your argument makes sense.. but it falls flat. If we have to get used to it, fine.. Only if it makes sense. Star Fox Zero.. did not make sense.
