I recently bought a used copy of Pokemon Y from gamestop. I put it into my new3ds andnsaw that there was a save fils on it and so I decided to check what was there. The game played fine for the first five minutes but then I realized that the buttons and touch screen stopped responding which had never happend before. The top screen and music where fine but I couldnt do anything. The only buttons that did work where the home, power, left and right buttons. I took the game out restarted the 3ds and and tried everything again. I put the game back in and deleted the save file. I then tried to use my pokemon moon on the 3ds and the same thing happended, the buttons and touch would not work. I wiped all the memory off the 3ds and the touch still wont respond 100% of the time. I wanted to know if anyone knows whats going on and how I can fix the problem. Thank you for reading

Try the battery trick.
Sorry for not replying, I kind of forgot what this website was called. Thank you for the advice but the Battery trick didn't work, I went through all the steps booted recovery mode and luma but the problem is still happening. I Tried to see if I could just live with the problem but now the music won't work sometimes either. I dont know what to do now. Anymore ideas will be greatly appreciated from any of the N3DS experts out there.

2|3DS consoles don't react to any buttons when permanent touch input it detected (By the way: Wii U Gamepad as well).
  • Look if you can find any dirt in between the frame and the touch panel (edges).
  • If there is a screen protector: Carefully remove it.
  • Disassemble the console (partially). Be careful to not strip any screws. They are often really tight and soft metal – easy to damage.
    • Disconnect the touch panel connector and boot without touch screen.
    • If that makes the buttons work again without problems… get a new digitizer. The part is cheap (less than $5); but replacing it is not easy if you're not used to dealing with small connectors. Refer to ifixit.com for detailed guides.
Good luck!
