If you head west from Ecuador time will change more slowly (as in time zone change) then if you head west from Montreal

Why?

The circumference of the earth decreases as the parallel number increases

The 49th parallel for instance is already less than 20,000 miles circumference, where as it's closer to 26,000 miles at the equator
