Okay, do you think you can try to add the feature to support .duc because I don't have anything for me to edit the source code right now. Plus, I don't have a clue on how to reconvert to .duc from .sav either.

OK I am not able to test this out seen as I lack an AR device but it appears to go as follows (I downloaded the 256 kb saves for US mario kart from gamefaqs):
The original save used by the DS, SC line, EZ line and most other cards has 500 bytes (or until offset 1f4 hex) filled with junk. This junk seems to be
ARDS000000000001 (ascii) for the first 16 bytes and the rest up to the 1f4 offset is junk with no hashing apparent (ironically gamefaqs saves appear to come from dualscene). I would hesitate to say that aside from the "header" it could be all 00's for all the AR cares.

From here it appears to be the save as per most carts and the main.cpp of the max2sc appears to confirm that.
For anyone that wonders it has some error detection/correction built in but max2sc trims everything before 1f4 hex and then pads with 00's to 256kb.

As for lack of something to view the sourcecode with internet browsers are glorified text readers (hell I use firefox all the time for unusual character sets).

Naturally you will need a hex editor to replicate most of this but if you made a header of the 154hex and below/first 500bytes you could probably get away with copy /b

Hope you get it sorted and please post back if you do get it working as it would be good to know.

Nope, never got it to work. I'm guessing maybe I should use something like visual basic c++ to edit the source code right? Or will any hex editor do the job because at the moment, I'm currently using Hex Workshop. I actually got the save file to be imported by the AR Max DUO but the problem was, it said that it failed to transfer right when it gets to 100% (I knew it would happen but decided to check it out just in case I was wrong). Maybe it's just something I overlooked so I guess it's back to work.

Yeah, I meant Visual C++ lol. I haven't seen my copy for a really long time. Anyway, I just recently found it and no new discoveries yet. I can't find the save manager file though so I'm guessing it's in a seperate file? I just used it to open up the thundaga.rc file and found nothing that I need to edit.

I assume you are using the US version of the game, can you try my newly converted AR save (naturally back up the original):
http://www.4shared.com/file/10980582/aa33b..._3_AR_test.html
I am not that far in the game on this save but I did use the save editor.
Edit: my bad, you will have to rename to .duc .

As for manually editing the save the values were all worked out search through wangjangs posts and the hash seemed to be a bytesum.

Yeah I simply snatched the header from a mario kart save (it has the areformentioned "identifier" followed by what I thought was junk (in actuality it was the rom name (as in release name) in unicode followed by the same in plain ascii and some stuff about dualscene.

I will alter it later today and repost.

So are you saying that's it just an FF3 save with the MKDS title? If so, I'll check if it works then. At least it should anyways because it was importable but just to be sure.....

To my knowledge R4 saves are raw saves with 256kb of junk appended, delete this junk and use RAW saves. There are a fair few conversion tools doing the rounds for converting back these days as well.

It's a shame no more are being made. I would have suggested, Melee LVL's and the ability to type in numbers HP, and Gold spots

I don't get why people care so much about others cheating on their own single player games. I have a lot of fun with PS2 Codebreaker with moon jumps and god modes. It's not your game, so don't worry about us "ruining" it.
