Robert Downey Jr. has been one of my favorite actors (alongside Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Jude Law and Ryan Reynolds) and I honestly believe Jr. as Doom is a perfect choice.
Superior IronMan comes to mind, and I'd love to see Jr.'s Doom as a variant of Tony Start that utilizes Extremis to become Doom.
Although, there's three more outcomes; the first one where Tony Stark slowly poisons himself when it fails to create the ark reactor to keep shrapnel from reaching his heart, thus slowly corrupts and turns into Dr. Doom.
Second one, where Victor Von Doom and Tony interchanges minds.
Third one, (and most likely)... Tony Stark is from Earth 838... the same one where Dr.Strange was held captive by the Illuminati in Multiverse of Madness.
Whatever it is... this right here...
could make a good redemption scene for Tony Stark as Doom:
