Hacking This still a working thing?

One user?

Almost everyone on GBATemp tells people to stay away from wiiu.guide.
Exactly it's pretty much the whole site including a number of well know wiiu devs who are telling people to stay away from that shit guide.

So, looking at it, it says I need an SD card, can I supplement if I don't have one, with a portable hard drive, usb, etc, or is the microsd for one just one of the options?

u need an sd card to install your games. plus, it's needed for any homebrew both wii and wii u sides.

have any of you checked it out recently, things can change, are there reasons to hate it now or is this just hate that is blind to change?
It's because it took many bricked people to make the author rewrite his guide on wiiu.guide.

It's because the Author does not care about updating his guide.

The people on here update their guides all the time. They are always on top of things.

Plailect and FlimFlam update the guide almost daily, what the hell?
If the guide works now, and has been working for hundreds of users, there's no point in choosing an unofficial guide which likely will set users up for problems later on.

Not only that but a good guide not only tells you what to do but also tells you why you are doing it and tells you what not to do wiiu guide does not do that and many people bricked using that guide because they tried to do things they shouldn't have. Also in the vWii side of wiiu guide it tells you you must install moded version of ios 80 to play backups which is not only untrue but also has lead to a huge number of bricked VWii's it is the only guide that tells you to use it every other guide pretty much says it's not needed and to not use ever unless you want to brick. Plus the guide has many more problems even in its current state.

I've not personally looked at that guide, but I managed to install cbhc and haxchi originally without using a guide, just by reading posts. the virtual Wii on the other hand, I used a guide for that. I'm playing the virtual Wii at this very moment via cbhc. I've had no issues with it. as long as u know what not to do, it's pretty safe to install cbhc and u don't really need a guide for that. however, @Kafluke and @Felek666 's guides will tell u all u need to know. u won't have to search for the information like me.

Why do you keep saying wiiu guide is the official guide??? It sure as hell is not the official guide on this site. All guides are unofficial the only guide that could be official is if nintendo made one themselves and that's not going to happen lol.

believe me - the wii u is pretty easy to hack. I'm coming from the 5.3.2 days (still have that second wii u which I spoofed then updated - works perfectly, just no gamepad for it), and also the haxchi days of having to use command lines with wupserver. that's originally how u install haxchi. it's unbelievably slow, but it still serves a purpose. I encountered no issues using that either, so the wii u really isn't that difficult to hack.

So what's the file extension for WiiU backups, anyway?

they come in installable form .app/.h3. the games r then decrypted into three folders - code, content, and meta. it does this by using the .tik file which is also a part of the .app/.h3 file list.

Uhh..okay then. I'm assuming asking WHERE to find backups isn't allowed, right?

Even though there have been no updates in quite a while (perhaps because everything works just fine and people are focusing on 3DS/Switch scene) everything still works wonderfully.

there are also apps that download directly from Nintendo's servers. they'll download legit .tik files for use without cfw, but downloadable games and dlc will use a fake ticket requiring cfw. everything has become very easy now. the apps in question will download legit or fake tickets if they're available on that title key site. they won't provide the title key site (you'll have to input that yourself), but it's not difficult to find.
