Just bought myself a DAS (fancy name for external HDD enclosure) for my thin client backup server because I hate the WD externals won't spin down and get hot:

I actually wanted to get a different one with a fifth HDD bay, but the location was too small by literally half an inch.

Aww yissss. it's here. The crown jewel piece of polished plastic of my bootlego collection: the Death Star.

I was going to wait until I've built it to post it here but I have no idea when I'll ever complete it (or so I want the Rebels to think anyway) so here's the "before" pic for now.
Over 4000 pieces, over 6kg/13lbs, this thing is intimidating. I don't really have the space to build it, or a place to display it, but I am resolute.

Perhaps I can find ways to motivate myself. I think I shall build the Emperor first, and put him somewhere to glare at me, most displeased with my apparent lack of progress. That ought to make me double my efforts.

Been watching Disney+ with niece. The texture detail is mind-blowing.
Reduced the TV's brightness to 50% to prolong the LEDs life.
You ought get an 8K capture card or camera to show off a better comparison.

Still that's quite cool.

I think on juanary when all the holidays high prices return to normal, I will have to buy a new for me, the actual one is dying slowly.

First I will try to replace the LED strips but if that goes wrong, a new one will be

In Mexico we have our own version of "Black Friday" (called (el) "Buen Fin") that lasts for 2 weeks.
The TV got reduced from $18,000 MXN to $9,600-ish MXN.
So of course it was a steal.

An LG, same size was 16K, reduced from 22K or so.

And THEN stores reduces prices even further during the first weeks of January because of overstock or something, but only on leftover things like Clothing, Shoes, Toys and whatnot, rarely there's Tech left from el Buen Fin.

I got this Bratz-themed 14" CRT TV  It was left in the give-away corner of a retro gaming meeting after use and nobody wanted it because of the color/theme  If nobody took it, it went to the dump. But I took it so the next time I don't need to move a heavy 21" JVC to a meeting B-) And now it's probably even a replacement for that 21" JVC because it died...

The plastic case and inside of this Bratz TV is really made-in-China level including the tube , but it still works, the image is fine and it has RGB input :) Only the DVD player didn't work, caused by a missing tray belt which I replaced now.

It was a meeting where people brought their own equipment. I brought a 2-player Time Crisis 2/3 setup with two linked PS2's, Guncon's and two CRT TV's with me. A 14" Samsung CRT was fine, but the 21" JVC suddenly had problems to turn on upon arrival. Luckily it turned on after some attempts so people could play. But back home it was really dead.

This Bratz TV just came in time :D

Two months late but this thing finally showed up.

This Chandelure is, in fact, a fully functioning LED lamp with 2 modes, full blast and pulsing.

And naturally it looks even better in the dark.

Next year I'm going to have to see how to upgrade it to be motion activated, that way I could use it as a very convenient and very cool night light for my foyer.
Also got this watch finally. Currently doesn't work but that should be a quick fix once I have the right battery.

And then I got a rain cover for my messenger bag, so now I can start to slap all those pins I own onto it without worrying about it damaging the water resistance of the thing in heavy rain.
