I've found reports of the same issue for the DSi but not for the 3DS and the fact that nobody else has mentioned this online does not mean that it's a completley isolated incident.
Because of Nintendo's incompetence and crappy quality control processes I now either have to go out of my way to exchange the console in a store this weekend or wait nearly 2 weeks for them to repair/exchange it by mail.

1. I am clearly not the only one who has experienced this type of problem as people reported it with the DSi so it isn't the first time that this issue has reared its head on a DS-line product.
2. Clearly Nintendo do have poor QA otherwise the other widely reported black screen issues would not exist.
3. I do not recall ever seeing Kim Jong Il troll anybody, he is not a frequenter of online forums as far as I am aware. Please feel free to correct me if you know otherwise though as I would be interested to see his comments.
