Sadly, once the console is banned, it's banned for good. If you mod your console, you can either use a free Tinfoil shop or download updates from certain websites that host them and install them via installer of your choice.I was wondering if, in case I get banned, it would be enough to modify the Switch with Picofly to be able to download updates from the store again, or if once banned, not even the hardware modification can access the store.
In short: Modchip allows you to run CFW on your system which opens a lot of options that MIG Switch never will. You can even play online on a clean sysNAND and keep the homebrew and pirated stuff on your emuNAND. With MIG Switch, however, you're pretty limited to whatever games you have in your personal library or whichever games are publicly available. Sadly, using publicly available games carry a high risk of getting your console banned, especially those with mixed certs or incomplete dumps which will certainly get you banned.everyone says that the modchip is more convenient than the MIG, but with the MIG I simply have to insert it and I can play everything, while with the modchip, in addition to the hardware modification, there's also software to install and more.
I've made this and this post about using MIG Switch for piracy. CFW is much safer but requires opening up the console and installing the modchip. The quality of modchips vary as well as skills of the person that installs them. If you get a quality modchip installed by a professional, you shouldn't run into a problem.
