Does anyone know where the claim that Mig is compatible with Switch 2 came from? I've started seeing it on some places that sell it, and was just curious if there was anything to back that claim up from the original team. I know there are rumours that there are some Switch 2 units changing hands on the black market, so it's possible they could have tested it I suppose, but seems like a bold claim given Nintendo have probably had their hands on Mig devices for over a year now, possibly enough time to try and prevent such compatibility.

Side note, part of me honestly thinks that the Mig appearing is at least partly responsible for the Switch successor not coming out earlier than this year. Imagine a device launching with piracy enabled from day 0. That sounds like enough of a situation for Nintendo to slam the brakes on the entire release roadmap. Thoughts?
While I do not know where that claim came from, based on past flash carts and what we know about the Switch 2, there might be some truth to that. I know we can't compare past consoles to future consoles but flash carts on the DS were compatible with the 3DS. And we already know that the Switch 2 is backwards compatible with the Switch 1 so at the very least, the Mig Switch can be inserted within the Switch 2.

As for whether or not it affected the release window of the successor, there is evidence that might be the case. For the DS flash carts, Nintendo would occasionally release firmware updates that prevented them from functioning. Of course, the flash cart makers would release their own updates to counteract Nintendo's updates. When it comes to the Nintendo Switch, despite the Mig Switch being out for so long, Nintendo has done nothing to stop it. Its plausible that the reason is there is nothing they can do at least from the software side or they feel like its a lost cause. At any rate, a hardware solution might be more practical which may have impacted the time when the Switch 2 comes out. I've also heard some rumblings from before the Mig Switch even came out that releasing it so close to the end of the Switch 1's life cycle is practically begging for it to be patched on future consoles.

It is also plausible that since the Mig Switch is updatable that they may be able to counteract any blocking attempt by Nintendo.

Any blocking attempts made by Nintendo on the Switch 2 cannot impact legitimate cartridges. It is also possible that Nintendo will add ridiculous amounts of telemetry to try to identify Mig Flash users and ban them. My question is has any Mig Flash user even been banned when they only use their own personally dumped game?

I think the only way you'd catch that is to see how fast the game switching is via system logs to detect if you're switching faster than should normally be possible. If the cart IDs are legit and only in use by one switch, you can't know much.

If they do check the cart switch timing then Mig Flash can just increase the cart switch timing. HOWEVER, there is at least one accessory that lets you have 4 or 8 Switch carts that you can switch between them with a press of a button. Don't remember the name of it.

EDIT:

It doesn’t work well with the mig

It need a second game inserted for it to even work

@retnuh730 said that Nintendo could log the timing of cart switching to detect Mig Flash users.

I'm referring to the fact about Nintendo checking the timing between cart switches to detect Mig Flash users. If they did that they could unintentionally ban people that use a product like the one in the video. I wasn't talking about using that with the Mig Flash.

people keep claiming this but I’d love to see a source

It’s also kinda of a stupid metric to track since someone with a dirty /dying cart reader or a messed up cart in general could be a falsd positive

I was talking about what Nintendo could Potentially try do and why it could cause problems. It could open up whole legal can of worms if the ban legit users.

This topic is arguably the most interesting thing going on right now for Switch hacking/hobbyists. Are there really any new homebrew/tools being introduced 8 years in?

Back again after weeks of ignoring this section. Honestly you do MIG Switch a disservice by sharing this thread with UnlockSwitch. I would delete any posts or reference to this "entity" and just have this be about MIG Switch. One company and their product is genuine. The other are a bunch of retarded fish frogs that need removing from human gene pool and this thread.

We are discussing ALL Switch Flash Carts. Just because Unlock Switch doesn't exist yet (if ever), it should be discussed.

So this thread will be renamed with a third or fourth flash card in it's title?? Given all the lame drama, US do not deserve to have any kind of oxygen or reference. I feel sorry for any genuine MIG switch owner who has to trawl through this thread looking for advice and suggestions, only to be met with tons of unrelated tripe. Worst part is that even the negative comments keeps US front and center...

I am a Mig Flash owner and now that they fixed the MacOS disconnecting issue a very happy one. I started following this thread to see if any other Mac users were having the same disconnection issues as I was.

I was thinking it might be possible to reverse engineer the local update sharing functionality. because it works totally offline and doesnt need to check in or verify with nintendo, it should be possible to spoof it to send signed game updates to a real switch from something that isn't actually a switch. it just has to communicate the same way and send the same kind of data in the same format

maybe it would need specific hardware to work/to be able to actually sync and communicate with a real switch, maybe it might need donor files from a real switch to authenticate itself, but it would solve the problem of banned unmodded switches not being able to update games. it wouldn't help with dlc for obvious reasons, but having a way to update games without needing a cfw switch to share them from would make banned ofw switches less useless, and it would be useful for the future too once updates aren't available officially anymore

No so useful because the firmware file is encrypted and you have no access to the private key.
