So President Obama been reelected president was not the only big news happening November 7

In a referendum on 6 November 2012, 53.9% of Puerto Rican voters voted against maintaining the territory's political status, and 61.15% opted for U.S. statehood if the territory's status were to be changed.

for the first time Puerto Rican voted against maintaining the territory's political status.

How do you guys especially USA tempers feel about adding a new state ?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge on this, but I know it gives you the chance to vote, tho is there anything else beyond that?

Why would people be against this?

I'm all for statehood for Puerto Rico if they want it. However, since the ballot was weird and basically asked people if they wanted to continue with the present form of status, and separately, what they would want if Puerto Rico hypothetically weren't a territory, I don't acknowledge this as Puerto Ricans voting for statehood, and I doubt anything will be done because of these specific results.

Yea hes right, there are a TON of people (mainly your average GIT OUT MY TOWN YE DERN HISPANICS) who feel that adding puerto rico would be like tearing down the border of mexico. And I realize they dont relate but thats how the others think.

what gives me hope is that the latino vote really helped obama out and doing this will give him even more support

If I heard correctly close to half of puerto rico is poor and the country is in debt already.that could be one reason I guess...

i think its too much
50 is enough
This doesn't even make sense.
When we had 13 states do you think they said.Well 13 is a lot how about we stop.No MANIFEST DESTINY BIATCH.

No really both parties agree it should be a state.
At this point if their agreeing on something then we should all be happy and accept it.

WHY WONT THE AWESOME FLAG SHOW
The first design is better but since it isn't working here's another star pattern.

^A star made of stars would be awesome, but it probably be something simple like this.

Everyone with a flag tattoo is gonna be pissed lol

Neat, although I have heard compelling reasons as to why PR shouldn't be made a state under our current "condition".

I have nothing against Puerto Rico, but 2 things:

1) 50 is a great, round number. It's kind of cool that it's been this way for decades.
2) They haven't submitted a statehood bill, so they would need to do that before the U.S. Congress even considers it.

a group of people want to take the first answer that is to change the current status to Congress and ask them to make a new referendum with 3 options statehood been one of them
