I am someone who never managed to play a Legend of Zelda game. Can somebody explain this comic?

It's similar to waiting in a Skyrim/Fallout game. You just press a button, select how long you want to wait, and remain completely frozen as a set of ingame hours quickly counts by. The same goes for BOTW. Of course, since it's video game logic, the game world and its inhabitants would freeze around you, too, as Link just waits 10 hours by a campfire. So the joke is sorta like, what if the world didn't freeze while you wait. Link is still staring into the abyss, and the enemies are like wtf m8.

For all the other old people reading this, "AFK" means "Away From Keyboard".

Now you don't have to look it up like I did.
I expect old people to know that and young ones to not.

While a bit dated, this comic was actually funny.

You should have given Link eyes that look like the triforce of courage for extra creppyiness.

Imagine if they froze as soon as they got within a certain proximity.
How far is the render distance in this game?

It varies between Portable and TV mode. Some games work better on portable while others in TV.

Breath Of the Wild works better on TV mode.
