I suspect there won't be Pro model in the first place, honestly. There's just little sense in making such device on a lot of levels, whether it's a home-only console or a super-enchanced revision of OG Swtch. In fact, it kinda amuses me that some people clinged hard to idea of Switch Pro, yet denied possibility of slimmer portable-only revision - which is what we eventually got, since it actually made perfect sense in context of console's strengths :)

Maybe it won't be a "Pro" but I definitely think there is going to be some sort of revision in the coming year or so. Whether it's a .5 update or a full make over is anyone's guess but Nintendo definitely has something lined up to compete with the PS5 and XBNext.

What does teasing this result in, if this is actually fake? Bad PR for TX, because they’ll be seen as liars? Shady as they may be, no company wants to generate bad publicity from not delivering on a product. It’s not like their sales will surge on SX licenses cuz people are going to buy before a product is shown.

As “shilling” at this seems, what makes this different from EA posting a cup with steam billowing out of it? And sites reporting on it? Or any other tease from any other game company to ever exist? How is this different from a rumor of a new Batman Arkham game existing, according to a few anon sources?

I got the same email that came from the OP, a few hours after Gary posted the thread.

What good would this company lying do for them? It won’t drive up their sales. It won’t really corral enough people to their site to check the validity of the statement, since it came from a newsletter.

Should the title be a bit more ambiguous? Yes. “SX retailer claims that new hack method for patched/lite Switch systems exist” or “TX supposedly has an exploit in the works for patched Switch consoles” etc etc.

I hate reporting on rumors, and I dislike when there’s no way to officially source something, but it’s not like this is completely unrelated to a large bulk of people visiting GBAtemp. There is genuine speculation. Is it real? Is it fake. What could this be? When will it happen? How did they do it? People interested in hacking their switch would definitely want to know that this is something potentially happening.

Yes, garyopa links to maxconsole. Yes, it comes off as him trying to generate clicks for his site. So? It’s clear by the fact he got the early email from the retailer and from all his other TX posts, he clearly has ties and contacts, and can easily get the information before anyone else. Information is a commodity, and he’s chosen to link back to his site in exchange for this early info. It is weird that now of all times we’re going off a Chinese reseller, but maybe that’s the way TX wanted to play it off. Who knows until we know more?

Regardless, this is interesting. And clearly people wish to discuss it, considering how many replies there are to the topic.

The lite wouldn't be appropriate for me, as I'd want to actually stream footage of games played on it. I'm talking about the new model with the upgraded battery. Bad enough it's a sealed battery to begin with; the stock life figures were depressingly inadequate for a $300 console.

I am the same opinion like chary!

    Regardless, this is interesting.

Well I have a switch with SX OS from day one and I am really happy since. I never updated on release day to the new firmware and no big bad things happend for me.
I like the idea to see that more switch's are hacked - so more homebrew developers will jump on. More and more stuff will be released and the scene will be a lot of fun.
Like with the PSP :) I did so much with it - and there were so much cool homebrews.

I just don't think they exactly compete on the same field. Switch still remains the only reliable option to play a ton of indie/AA/remastered games on the go, so release of PS5/XBNext isn't all that threatening for the platform; on the opposite side, PS5 and XBNext will already be drastically more powerful than Switch, so it would be too naive of Nintendo to try and compete with that via mild hardware enchancements for a glorified PS3-tier machine. If anything, I expect Nintendo to double down on "it's portable" kind of marketing in the future, seeing as they have a ton of experience in turning relatively underpowered handheld devices into consistent top sellers.

I don't know it's so much a matter of competing so much as trying to not have their momentum slow down. Next year gamers are going to have two very appealing new choices. If someone doesn't have a Switch, what would stop them from turning to one of these new consoles? Now if Nintendo has something new as well this might keep a gamers eye on Nintendo rather then Sony or Microsoft.

Likewise, Nintendo can make the case for a multi-Switch house hold by introducing a newer model.

If it makes results which it does why not? The exploit will be public sooner or later but by then, TX will grab the money as usual while salty fanboys will rage about the fact that they actually have to pay a software to steal another software LOL.

What exploit? There hasn't been a single scrap of evidence that TX have or that they are even WORKING on such a project. All that's been is conjecture, supposition and vague hints, nothing concrete

I mean, they did it before if I'm not mistaken in an old update of theirs. TX gives zero fucks on bad publicity, that much is clear.

Because EA posting a cup with steam billowing out of it (AKA them going to Steam) isn't an extraordinary claim. Claiming you bypassed the security on a pretty damn secure system is an extraordinary claim, and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Game leaks are often treated as "haha your uncle works at Nintendo" because how often they are fake, and the ones that tend to get reported on (unless it's a slow week in the industry) are the ones with credible evidence (ie. Amazon or Best Buy listing failures.

Some people think publicity, good or bad, is still publicity either way for them. TX and it's shady resellers definetly would go in that category.

But why put it on the front page? Speculation threads are pretty common on GBATemp (and is one of the reasons I don't frequently post on this site as much as I used to), but this is the one that gets frontpaged somehow.

The only thing I'd like to say here is that I'm pretty sure Gary is a TX reseller for them, so him spreading these rumors would definetly fit his MO. I don't care about linking back to MaxConsole (although I do find it kinda funky since the site is known for a somehow even looser anti-piracy sentiment than GBATemp is), but it's still relevant to point out.

Have you considered the amount of replies may be a little bit inflated by the fact this was frontpaged in spite of being more or less baseless speculation and people are confused/annoyed because it's pushing actual newsworthy items down the list of recent news? I'm one of the people that uses GBATemps front page to more or less keep up-to-date with new game and homebrew announcements as well as the occasional interesting opinion piece. Baseless speculation threads (like, this isn't even any discussion, it's just baseless speculation) kinda detract from that.

I kinda see your point. Though in some way, it won't be that hard of a choice regardless? People who want to play their favorite games on the go are highly unlikely to pick PS5/XB over Switch, and people who want to experience top-notch performance on their TVs are highly unlikely to pick Switch over PS5/XB - the kind of experience those consoles provide is simply so different that picking one or the other is a matter of lifestyle more than any actual hardware advantages.

This news is just a copy/paste from the source… and that page doesn't have any kind of source.
I can not belive this info at all.
