Looking good, please don't bail on it before it's complete, like 99% of people who begin a translation patch...

    Woah man, I'm so excited!
I always wanted to play Tales VS, but dealing with JAP menus is really uncomfortable.
Thats great project, because really, menu patch is almost everything what is needed, to enjoy this game.
    Keep going bro!

Good luck with this, I hope you stick with it and succeed, where so many others give up and abandon partially completed translations.

I played a bit of this game in japanese. I was a bit underwhelmed... I hope if I can see it and understand what they're saying, i might feel different about it.

Ohh, this is one of those games that I hacked the day it came out. I thought I had wasted my time but years later I found that FF3 was developed by the same company and I could use those hacks to extract all FF3 PSP interesting stuff... Which was the actual waste of time since it came out in all possible languages. Anyway, I can't find the image hack right now, but here is absolutely all the text in the game:

    Menu Text:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/bc6tospm972n1sg/tod_msg_menu.msd.txt

    Skit Text:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/oppos2otsl6myv7/tod_msg_skit.msd.txt

    Skit Sub Text:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/y44lb8mzgx1pz5z/tod_msg_skit_sub.msd.txt

I also made a short video demonstrating reinsertion but it seems you have the bull tamed already ;)

if your video contains repointing the text files (and what comes after) in the header of the iso and rewriting the new sizes of those text files, then congratulations, you are a genius.

The video does not contains that, but those things you mentions are pretty easy, I already did them right when the game was released:

-My translations tools do repoint text, recreating each file with updated pointers, allowing to put text bigger than the original.
-This game has a LBA protection: it uses a file that contains an LBA backup of the original ISO, so if you change the position or size of a file inside the ISO (for example, using UMDGEN), the game won't boot. I don't remember the name of this file (it was something like "todfat" -> tales of destiny file allocation table... Or something like that), but this protection is very easy to overcome either by:

1 - Updating the lba backup file each time the ISO is rebuilt
2 - Removing the LBA check by ASM-Hacking the Eboot

I did all this, and the game worked alright, with my translation tets. The video I meant was this, no big deal it's just a demonstration, I explain nothing here:

Still, this was all years ago, I saw the tales of saga had quite a big fanbase, so I hacked both this one, and ToD2 for PSP... Then I saw no one was interested in their translations and forgot about the saga altogether... To be honest I'm no longer interested in it, so I employ my time in the Final Fantasy saga instead :/

i literally know that you are capable of repointing text strings, since they are simple pointer pointing to strings, and what i said earlier was about the lba, because the game, as you mentionned, checks the LBA, but if you repoint the actual files in the iso, and created (a bigger) new iso, it will also work.
