Tales fans rejoice! A team of translators and hackers, whom you may be familiar with: both Tempus and Aaron who led the Fatal Frame 4 patch, have stepped up to the plate to bring you Tales of Graces, the newest installment of the Tales of series on the Nintendo Wii. They have gotten very far, already having a bit more then 1/5th of the translations done as we speak. Visit their website where you can find out the progress of the patch, occasional news posts, and Live-Chat with the developers so you know what is going on. So keep a close eye on their website for the inevitable release of Tales of Graces.

Tales of Graces takes place in a planet known as Efinea. The people of Efinea use a substance called Arles which is composed of another substance called Cryas which has allowed civilizations on the planet to flourish. On Efinea there are three kingdoms--Windol, Strata, and Fendel--who are competing for dominance of the planet.

In the remote region of Windol lies the city of Lhant. The eldest son of the feudal lord Aston, Asbel, is a bright and cheerful boy who spent his childhood like any other carefree boy does: enjoy everyday together with his irreplaceable friends. After Sophie's supposed death Asbel decides to enlist himself in a knight's academy in the capital in order to gain the power to protect others.

Graces takes place seven years after the incident. In his eighth year, Asbel has grown up and established himself as a fine knight. However, at the death of his father, Aston, he gives up his dream to become a knight and takes over his father's position of a feudal lord.

Great to hear someones working on it... From all Tales games that came out lately I always thought that this one looked best, because of the art, the characters and the combat (which looks even faster then other Tales games with the 360-dodging and fast combos...)!

And the site looks really nice as well, which shows, that there is dedication to the project.

It may take a while till we`ll get to play this in english but it`s nice to have a progress-bar on the webside, so we can follow the progress of the project!

The site seems really professional (that's promising). But I'm surprised they managed to get that address.
As far as I can tell, this game changes a few things. There's the battle system, but also the map screens seem less like a huge representative character on a map, but more like a real area, like a huge outdoor level of the game (worst explanation of what I mean ever, go watch a video). Also, the skits have full torso portraits, with some odd images overlaid for the funny expressions, instead of the static faces. And many of the cutscenes seem to use motion capture for the animation, rather than simple animations (although Symphonia 2 did use that too). Looks to be good!

Sad that it seems really unlikely to come out in the US...I'd heard it was going to come out in Europe at least, but that was some time ago and I can't really find any confirmation. Ah well, at least we'll get to try this translation eventually thanks to Tempus and everyone else working on it.

I'm guessing that means you've not played Tales of Symphonia? You definitely should do, it's one of the best (the GC one, not the Wii one).

The Wii one had a bad story line (even for Tales), some of the worst characters I've ever seen in a game, and some pretty rancid voice acting. Graphics were pretty crap too. The gameplay and stuff still worked well enough but it was just so incredibly hampered by terrible characters and presentation issues. Within 5 minutes of playing you'll learn that the main character is annoying, whiney, and the biggest pussy you'll ever see.
