Forgive me if this is posted elsewhere, the search function is giving me an error message.

I installed the Homebrew Channel and related software on my 3DS when 11.2.0-35 was the most up to date firmware and have since avoided subsequent updates. Now I'm getting messages that Pokemon Moon won't work online without the newest system menu.

My wife updated hers when the update after 11.2.0-35 came out and it seemed to remove some of her homebrew functionality, though other things still work.

I want to know if it is safe to do the normal update or will I lose homebrew functions, and if there is an established way of spoofing the menu version or otherwise installing a modded version. It's obvious at this point the updates do nothing besides attack homebrew anyway.

I highly recommend following the guide erman1337 linked, its extremely useful and future proof

However you may be able to use the homebrew app called 'ctr-httpwn' in homebrew channel to bypass the system menu version check. However you'd have to run it every time you boot.

As of today, ctr httpwn doesn't fully work anymore. Looks like Nintendo found a way around it, at least to enter our webbrowsrs. Didn't try with games, the eshop access (through ctr) is still working.

For the past few system updates, ctr-httpwn did not work to bypass the browser update nag (iirc, since 10.7.0-32 there it has been impossible to bypass the browser check), as it works entirely differently to other update nags. This has been true for quite a while.

@Xiphiidae Indeeed, yellow8 answered me that ctr hadn't this effect. How can I never had received any nag before (from using my console under 11.2 until now) ?

Install CFW with this guide: http://3ds.guide

Then you can keep homebrew while still being on the latest version, plus a lot of other cool things
I already followed that guide months ago when I originally installed Homebrew Channel, FBI, and Luma. Does that mean I'm safe to perform a regular system update?

- Edit, I ran and updated Luma. Now the system options still reports the old version, but Pokemon is letting me access online functions again! So, problem solved? Still can't access badge arcade, but I gave up on that some time ago anyway.

It calls your NNID (like Miiverse or the eshop). If you're under 11.4, you can simply use the ctr httpwn homebrew (3DSX file) in order to patch the NNID version check and go through.

edit the sabertooth nishoba, my first multicoloured creature from my first Invasion pack *_* (still have it as a souvenir)
