Hacking System Menu questions/thoughts

Im currently unpacking a 3.2 system wqad to look for the 000000008.app and then will try and edit the text with ultraedit.

How sure are you?
Who thinks if i do this and then re pack it back that if it all goes wrong that the mighty preloader will save the day? As i figure it would overwrite it?

Im willing to try it if enough people think it will work.

Im about 60:40 that it would work.

I had a corrupt system menu when i installed the preloader - i had it set to boot the HBC so i could get in there no problems.
When i re-installed a new system menu it deleted the preloader - thats my only issue - installing a new system menu may remove the preloader and if the system menu is corrupt then your on a brick.

hmm.... if you are installing system menu.wad when you have preloader on.... you will be removing preloader with the system menu.wad ... so i don't think preloader will help in this situation... I think it's more balls to the wall... I would test this with another .wad first that maybe had the same .00000008 app file maybe?? Too bad we can't try this on a virtual wii console on out pc's first... ya know?

If anyone needs any files just pm me... I have just about everything in a mediafire link ready to be down loaded...I don't want anyone to run into problems finding the right files for taking risks like these... we are all learning together...some more advanced in certain aspects of the hacking which is a great thing. Some of us have good ideas to inspire each other to make the magic something more tangible. I guess what I am saying is great group of people here and am honored to work with you. I feel like I have met some of the most intelligent people in the world that share a huge part of my life.. Anyways....safe hacking!

Well, ive extraced the wad and been looking, but the problem is im not confident enough in what im doing.

Ive not really messed around with this, if someone else will extract and repack and patch i will happily try it.

The problem i have is repacking it as if i recall correctly, only one of the three packers work correct?

Again thoughts?

It's being worked on. We're also kinda waiting for a fix for SD loading from preloader to see where that leads. Lot of options open at that point.

As far as thread dropping to page 2, it's been a long week. Fast, Furious and Fun. And oh yea... Frustrating. Looks to me like the guys are gonna have the configuratin optoins of preloader expanded to cover the gammut real quick though.

Wow, I just installed the cioscorp pack, and all my backups load even ones that aren't in my region(I have starfall). Though some of the lower numbered gave ret-1035 errors all my backups still work. I would like to say thanks to all the people who risked their wii's for this

. Maybe this could get packaged in to some kind of easy installer sometime?

Installation guide:


WARNING: This May cause your Wii to brick if your uncareful, please only do this if your aware of the consequences.

Before attempting make sure you are on v3.2 of the system menu, if not you may brick your wii.
1. To download the necessary files, type mediafire.com in to your web browser. Now add /file/y51dznne2dt/CIOSCORP.zip to the address.
2. Make a new folder in the root of your sd card called "wad". Extract the "CIOS33.wad" file from the zip, to the wad folder.
3. Now download Wadmanager 1.3
4. Unpack the contents of the file you just downloaded to /Apps/Wadmanager1.3 on your sd card. Now go to where you extracted and rename the file to boot.dol
5. Turn on your wii and go to the homebrew channel. Launch the Wad manager.
4. When you've launched it press reset to continue. It will now install the wad. If you get an error here DO NOT continue, use the uninstall guide located below. If your confused by this:

x. Install IOS33, if you get an error, don't proceed
y. Install the other IOS's except IOS30, if you get an error, don't proceed
a. Install IOS30, that's the most important step, but this is the step which could brick your Wii too

If you didn't get an error copy all the files from the zip into the wad folder on the root of your sd card and launch Wad manager from the homebrew channel again. Once it's done exit back to the main menu.
5. Your done! Your backups will now load directly from the Disc channel. Remember Cios 249 rev7 has to be installed, if it isn't installed download it from here and put the file in /Apps/Rev7 on your sd card and rename it to boot.dol. Now run it from the homebrew channel.


Uninstalling:

If you feel you want to go back to how it was before download CIOS downgrader. Now run it from the homebrew channel and set it to the firmware you were on before. Also set ALL the region settings to the region you were on before or the console WILL brick. Once that's done your system is restored to how it was before.

Just to be on the safe side:

Make sure you dump you nand with FS dumper BEFORE installing the above.

or

Make sure you have the original IOS' stored somewhere safe BEFORE installing the above

You could always use ios downgrader to return the ios's to their original state.

Is a system menu included in the package? If not, 3.2 should be a requirement before installation. And to check if there's enough free space on the NAND would be a good idea too.

And important: Start installation with IOS33, if you get an error: STOP! If this doesn't work you have half downgraded system or something worse. If you would install IOS30 in this setup, you could brick your Wii easily.



PS: These are only the problems which came to my mind after thinking 1 minute, there could be some other very important things.

OH SHIII, I installed that but it doesn't read backups from the disc channel.

I unpacked CIOS to wad, and installed one by one. Then I hit reset and it's acting normal but doesn't read backups from the disc channel. I'm on 3.2U.

Weird, Try installing them all at one time. Some one had that problem earlier in this thread and fixed it by installing them again.

This guide has only IOS30 in it, i suggested to test IOS installation with IOS33 first. IOS33 because it's an unimportant one, it's not used by the system menu, the HBC or Wad Manager, so it doesn't matter if it get corrupted or deleted. If you get a problem with IOS30 installation, you really have a problem.

Oh silly me, you can scroll down the WAD list. I was up to 28 and I looked at the folder which had more. I'm doing the rest, luckily it didn't brick with half the CIOS installed.

tonight I plan to do a nan dump only.. and pack them back to WAD to see if I got it right.
then I would like to test a couple of starfall boot to see how it works..
and then maybe I will run the wads....
