You have bootmii installed as boot2? Try using giantpune's oneswananegger nand.bin formater.

Make a new nand.bin with bootmii
Format it with oneswananegger
Install sm 4.1 with oneswananegger
verify the new nand.bin with giantpune's nandbincheck app
restore the nand.bin with bootmii
softmod the wii again.

also you may want to try formating your sd card with this

Removing the SD card seems to help, but it isn't the root of the problem, since it still happens without it. I think the OP needs to try removing Priiloader, since everything works fine before a complete softmod.

I had a similar problem to the OP on a friend's Wii. Uninstalling priiloader fixed it.

QUOTEI'm using a 2gb Kingston microSD card in a Kingston microSD to SD converter.
This could also be your issue. You should try a regular SD card (not microSD and not SDHC). I have the exact same microSD+adapter. For me, it works fine with Bootmii/SNEEK, but I've had trouble with it in quite a few other homebrew apps. I wouldn't be surprised if priiloader doesn't like it.

Finally, if you remove priiloader, you can use startpatch to apply the hacks that you want.

It still happens after taking priiloader off. 2/20 failures without the sd card in and 5/20 failures with the sd card.

I made a nand backup before I took priiloader off, but I can't find oneswananegger anywhere, where should I go to find it mauifrog?
Nevermind I just tried searching nand formater instead of oneswananegger and found it. I'll post back after I've tried it.

I have 2 questions now that I've actually got the program up and running. First, I do have bootmii in boot2 so even if this doesn't work or if I screw up the nand that I make somehow it will still be there for me to go back to a working nand, right? And second, do you want me to get just the system menu after I format the nand or the whole 4.1u update package?

Using the full 4.1u update I got this log from nandBinCheck, does everything in it look ok to try putting the nand on my wii?

Nand formatter is buggy as all hell. It crashes out most of the time. You have to only have the minimal wad files, just enough to get the SM working. But even better is if you have bootmii in boot2 then you can use the formatter to just install IOS58, then use the mini version of the hackmii installer to install HBC and then you can use the IOS236 installer, and then just install everything from a wad manager.

It seemed to work fine for me. I loaded up a copy of the nand I made formated it and put "4.1u" in the top left box and pressed get it. Was that what I was suppose to do? The nandBinCheck log from the nand it made is in my previous post.

After putting the nand from ohneswanzenegger on it, I am getting nothing but a black screen, it seems different from what I was getting before too. Like the reset button not doing anything, where before it would reset the system and give it another go at loading the system menu. I can still get into bootmii. Should I stay like this and try some stuff, or would it be better to go back to the nand from before I tried this or even the one I have from before I put any mods on at all except for HBC and bootmii?

Out of curiosity I checked my other nands with nandBinCheck and here are the results.

Is it possible that my nand was messed up before I even started and it only started showing problems after I put the softmod on?

Try to let the black screen sit for a little while, the wii setup should load but it is a little slow. For me I also get a black screen for a short while, then the setup loads.

You did make a fresh nand.bin with bootmii before running the formater right? You need a fresh nand.bin with the current map of bad blocks.

I let it sit on the black screen for around half an hour and nothing happened. I used the nand I made just before I removed priiloader from my wii. I tried again by making a nand copy of what is on there now and using it, but I still got the same results. I did notice that when trying to put the nand ohneshwanzenegger made on the wii, it said it skipped bad blocks 4071 and 4072, which it didn't do for any of the other bad blocks I had. Bootmii did recognize those two blocks,in addition to 3 others (1573, 2477, and 3492), as bad when I made the nand I loaded into ohneshwanzenegger. I believe it said the same thing about those 2 blocks the first time as well.

I can't imagine what the issue would be. Try to use cboot2 and load MMM, then reinstall system ios and menu. Perhaps run a syscheck also.
You could also make another nand dump and check it with nandbincheck, see if there are any changes between the two nand.bin.

Reinstalling the ios and system menu didn't change anything. I just got tired of it and reloaded the nand backup I made while it was still acting up but manageable. I appreciate all you guys trying to help me, but I think I'm done messing with it.

After messing with it some more I got it working, but didn't actually fix the problem. Here is what all I did.

Starting out I reloaded the working 3.3u nand.bin I had. Then I tried using a game with a higher system menu to update it. I used Muramasa the Demon Blade, because it was the only game I have with a higher system menu. Doing this lead to the same problem as before, black screen on start up most of the time.

I reloaded the nand again, and this time used MMM to install just the wads of various system menus and the IOS they need to run that I got with NUS Downloader. I tried 3.4u, 4.0u, 4.1u, 4.2u, and 4.3u and all of them caused the black screen. No I didn't just install one, see it mess up and then install the next on top of it, I went back to 3.3u each time to make sure it was working before I installed the next one.

I decide to try just hacking the wii but keeping it at 3.3u instead of updating, since it seems to what is causing the problem. I put 3.3u back on and used modmii to generate the wads I would need and just skipped installing the system menu one. This worked and the wii still loaded after so I went to put priiloader on it like that. I could install it, but it's hacks didn't actually work and after some searching I read that it would only work on 3.2 or 4.0 and up.

So I got a 3.2u wad from NUS Downloader and installed it. I put priiloader back on and got a hacks.ini for 3.2u and now everything is working fine.

It seems to me, that something is messing up the system menu IOS for any system menu higher than 3.3. I don't think it is the IOSes I've been putting on, since I've tried ones from multiple sources. And I don't think I'm messing up anywhere, since I also installed the copy of IOS30 that I got from modmii, which 3.2 and 3.3 both use and it works just fine. None of the games I've tried mess up either, although I only have 3 game to try.

Now I want to know if there is any reason I should not just stay with 3.2u, now that I've got it to work. I know 4.0 and up let you load channels off your SD card but I don't mind missing out on that, are there any other features that only the new system menu have?

If you have 3.3/3.2, don't use Priiloader v0.4. You need to switch to v0.6+.
I have 0.7 on it right now. I'm not having any problems with it, it all works fine, I'm just wondering if there is any reason to keep trying to get the higher system menus to work now that I have 3.2 with everything working.

QUOTE(machomuu @ Jun 30 2011, 11:13 PM) Why do you use such an old version of SM anyway?
My wii had 3.3u on it when I bought it, and when ever I try to upgrade to a higher system menu most of the time it will lock up when I turn it on, before it even gets to the health screen. For some reason 3.3 and 3.2 work fine however.

I have 0.7 on it right now.Okay, but if you need a hacks_hash.ini file, save this to SD:\apps\Priiloader\

The biggest difference between 3.2 and 4.1 is the ability to run channels from your SD card. You can still run them from an SD/HDD through NAND emulation though, and everything else (at least what comes to mind) is pretty small. I know a few people who choose to stay on 3.2 just because.
