idk if anyone still checks this thread but did the firmware update actually work for anyone? cuz for me it starts and at about 80% it flashes the region error that normally comes up if you try updating in an unmodded menu and then it restarts the console.

I already have the gamepad synced to my console thx to UDPIH (and the Aroma DRC Region Free plugin) but some features like Quick Start are unusable since the firmware updates that include them have been bypassed and I was hoping this might be a solution to that... :/
You can read my steps in more steps item.
Diffetence region must do more steps.

I did exactly what your post says and it didn't work for the firmware update, like I said, I can link the gamepad through other means just fine but the firmware update doesn't actually work, maybe that's why there was no change on your end when you tried a different drc_fw.bin file since it doesn't actually do anything lol

I haven't try directly use the original drc_fw.bin to update different region gamepad, maybe can change the region permanently, but I am not sure!!!! You can try and tell me the result.
I tried use original drc _fw.bin(euro version) to update my JPN GamePad, had update procedure, but after reboot, not effect, remain has Japanese text.
And I tried to combine Euro and JPN firmware, but the same, not effect.

I think change the GamePad region need to hardmod, read the flash and change some value. Maybe in the feture, I will tried, but no schedule.
Very untimely response and really late to the party, but I figured out how to at the very least change the Wii U GamePad language. Not the region, but it'd be useless because modded Wii Us now allow for pairing out-of-region GamePads without external software (Aroma moment lol); kind of hope there's a way to change the language without relying on proprietary/confiscated Nintendo SDK tools, but as it stands, here's a guide to change it's language.

Anyways, you would need:
  • A Wii U, and a GamePad (duh)
  • SystemConfigTool installed (there is a "SysNAND" version somewhere on the Internet Archive, you can check it out)
  • "lang_xx.bin" (xx is a number) files, I'll show you how to download them later on in the guide
So, here are the steps:
  1. Download all the files from these folders using JNUSTool:
    • "0005001010044000/content/"
    • "0005001010044100/content/"
    • "0005001010044200/content/"
  2. In the folders there should exist several files, named "lang_xx.bin" as mentioned above. Copy them all into 1 folder.
  3. Boot up FTPiiU, then navigate to the following directory depending on which Wii U region you have:
    • North America/NTSC: "/storage_mlc/sys/title/00050010/10044100/content/"
    • Europe/PAL: "storage_mlc/sys/title/00050010/10044200/content/"
    • Japan: "/storage_mlc/sys/title/00050010/10044000/content/"
  4. Copy all the files in the 1 folder you just created, then paste all the files back in one of the directories above.
  5. Turn off FTPiiU.
  6. Boot into SystemConfigTool.
  7. You should see the following screen:

    1687941779676.png

    Navigate to "Language", and choose the language you want to switch your Wii U GamePad.
  8. Press A at said language, then press Y.
And you're done! Say hello to your GamePad talking in another language that it shouldn't be.

I know that you are struggling to find a way, so here is the way that I have found.

@ramsaynieve Not sure what you mean with "can't find". Did you even read the readme of JNUSTool? Cause it works perfectly fine when you know how to use it;
Code:
$ java -jar JNUSTool.jar 0005001010044000
JNUSTool 0.3b - by Maschell

You probably shouldn't try things able to brick your console when you're not able to follow simple readmes. Not trying to be mean, just warning you...

you do not offend, but I explain
in the github that I have found, no readme appears (.zip only 3, logically I have simply used the .jar file, which is a gui.
