I got a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for free, because it started acting strangely.
On this controller, the orange LED next to the pairing button no longer lights up when you press/hold it or when you plug it in to a charger/Switch. Wireless pairing does not work. The controller works as intended, when connected via USB-C cable. USB Tester shows, that the lines seem to be okay. (They show the same two lines not active as on my second Pro Controller.)
I already replaced the battery because the old one was discharged, but the controller still doesn’t charge the new battery. The controller was able to update its Firmware from the Nintendo servers with the new battery inside.
Can anyone tell me where to find information on how to fix this? Strangely, there is almost no information online about repairing Switch Pro Controllers or about spare parts for them. All the stuff I could find only explains how to install new sticks.

Thanks!

The joycon toolkit made by CTCaer is supposedly also supporting the Pro controller.
Maybe this can give you some more information.

One thing that might have happened is that the previous user tried charging it with a faulty battery.
In that case the battery can draw a large amount of current, breaking the circuit that charges the battery.

Biggest problem is that there is hardly any information on repairing these controllers.
Not even high res pictures of the PCB.

First check for obvious signs of burned components.
Next up are fuses (which can also be tiny SMD components, usually white).
Capacitors around the charger IC can also take a beating so check those for continuity (which they should not have).
Sometimes it helps using some 99% alcohol to see if something like a broken capacitor gets hot.

I heard the teardown and reassembly is obnoxious! If there's been any liquid damage in it's past, this could happen potentially

I opened up a pro controller yesterday and changed the analog joysticks with hall effect ones. If you use the correct tools, you should be ok opening it up and servicing it. ifixit has detailed steps for this. While I can't say on how easy the pcbs are to service, at least the disassembly is pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the Infos!
I think I‘ll this thing and if its easy enough I‘ll open up my working one to and compare everything. Weird that even on Aliexpress there is almost nothing for the Pro Joycon except for Hall Sticks.
