I actually have electronics and engineering background and have worked on boards years ago. But now my eyesight and skills are not what it used to be. When I knocked off that resistor and my hand shaking so much just trying to align my iron on the tip of the wire and the CLK point I realized I needed help to finish it. If I would to go back and redo it, I'd probably save up more and buy a decent rework station and a stereoscopic microscope with camera attachment.

I wouldn't bother with 0402 or smaller without a stereo microscope to begin with. Absolute lifesaver. My experience is that at higher magnification, you gain extra dexterity. My hands barely shake at all when using the microscope.

Agree 100%. It's very difficult to guage the distance of the iron and the board at those dimensions. However, I know @slslasher modded his unit just using his phone for magnification.

I won't claim it cannot be done, and props to them for the achievement. But I will claim that soldering under a good stereo microscope has taught me a lot. The superb clarity and detail allows you to really evaluate the effects of all factors in play, like solder iron pressure, tip angle, feed rate, how long to hold the iron against legs, the effect of flux, iron temperature, dissipation in bigger copper planes etc. Absolutely invaluable if you want to get serious about it!

Yes. It's just a resistor so it can be in any orientation.

Thank you for the input guys, before I tried to put it back on I checked it with my multimeter and it appears to be cooked as getting no value out of it, would someone be kind enough to point me to the exact part I need please? I am very much a rookie with all of this but I am trying to learn as I go, thank you

I have a Switch OLED someone else tried to perform a modchip install and knocked off the CMD resistor in the process.

He didn't try to turn the board on when he noticed he removed the res.
Does anyone happen to know the resistor value?

i killed 2 CMD resistors on separate occasions ..and i have modded around 20 unit so far.. but this CMD is getting on my nerves

1. i was wondering how to avoid killing that resistor?
2. at what temperature will the resistor die? im on 350c ..
3. should i go down to 180C when im on that point?
4. If i were to solder the resistor back, how hot should my iron be in order not to kill it

How do you kill them? What I do is add a tiny drop of fresh leaded solder to the resistor end first. Then get a thin piece of wire, AWG 34 thickness (32 is acceptable, 30 is too big), pre-tin it, and tack it on to the resistor. With a good iron, it takes half a second. Done, finished, don't touch it again. And don't tug on the wire. Coat it with solder mask for rigidity if you don't trust yourself.

im using flex cables from HWFLY and sometimes i need to change the flex and in order to change the flex.. i touch the A point slightly to release the solder but i think it could not take the heat and died LOL.. how i know i killed it? The screen goes purple

i also desoldered my cmd resistor but when it came off it tore a piece of solder pad, and ive been trying to jump wire it, but after many unsuccesful attempts i dont have any more trace in the pcb where i can jump wire the resistor, could any one point me an alt pad that i could jump wire the resistor? thanks in advance

They should both be 10uF 16v 0603 caps, measurement is 11.x uF within ±20% range

Meanwhile I received another OLED and while I was doing the mod I measured the resistor.
Found a similar value on an old 3DS board and harvested it

can you point out where in the 3ds motherboard can you get this resistor. thanks in advance. internet say this is a 0201 4.7k resistor
