So you're saying that Atmosphere will be booted before Horizon OS? (even if you will need to do everything again after a reset or turned it off)

I'm asking this because I wanted to know if the CFW was loaded before the Horizon OS, this would make it impossible to Nintendo to even log what have you launched (since the CFW wouldn't be launched through the Horizon OS). Am I right? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
I think its a good question from a technical standpoint :) Anyway, for users above 4.1 (basically 5.x), they would need to load CFW using Fusee Gelee, the tethered coldboot, because there are currently no known software exploits for 5.x. There are ones confirmed working up to 4.1, however they are not available to the general public as they may prove yet useful for the new Switch revision, Mariko. Basically, the lower your firmware, the more options you have of booting into Atmosphere.

While technically Nintendo can't exactly monitor what firmware you're running, since Atmosphere is a modification of Horizon, there are other ways they can bring down the ban hammer. The problem is we can't say for sure what those things would be until people risk their console's life. If you want to eventually use Atmosphere while utilizing online services, the best advice is to wait for the smoke to clear once Atmosphere is completed and people use EmuNAND to update to the latest firmware.

Have you tried reading this? https://reswitched.tech/info/faq. Note that this will only work if its a system update. If thats a game update, then I don't believe it will work, but you can still try.

Is there anything fun we on v3.x (or rather specifically for myself, v3.0.2) can do via RCM before Atmosphere drops? So far I've yet to find anything but info surrounding v4.x and v5.x.

I tried to get my 5.0.2 Switch in RCM mode but unfortunately, I could not because I'm using a paperclip. I pressed down on the power button and held the volume up button, but it didn't work. Here's the bent clip I am using:

So, I have a 3ds and a switch. Is there any emulators that perform better on switch rather than on 3ds? At this current point in time. I know later the switch emulators will be more powerful.

Aside from dumping your NAND, console-specific keys, or booting Linux? Oh you can also dump your save and try editing it through trial-and-error. Yeah, it's all just a lot of not-so user friendly stuff right now.

It took me a few tries with my paperclip. Try using a flashlight so you can tell whether or not the paperclip is touching pins 1 and 10. My paperclip isn't bend or twisted in any way, its completely straight. What I do is drop it into the rail then angle it to a max of 45 degrees sticking outside of the rail to ensure contact with the pins. Its still gonna be trial and error.

Right but for pure performance at this point in time is the switch worth using? I am kind of trying to find an emulator that performs better than the 3ds. I won't be setting it up or trying it just trying to get a good idea of the potential future of the system as far as emulators go.

Not that I know of, sorry. There are not that many emulators for the Switch. Only having Pegaswitch on 3.0 did not lead to that much development on the Switch. Once Atmosphere comes out, it will be much easier to port emulators onto the Switch. So for now, its not worth the trouble.

Just a noob trying to help out fellow noobs. Plus, the more questions that are asked and answered here, the less threads that will clutter the home page.

Booting Linux would be awesome, good to know I can do that if I choose. My understanding is that Hekate is what you use for dumping the NAND, right? My confusion mostly stemmed from that as I noticed that people refer to the 4.x and 5.x versions of Hekate as "ports". Does this mean the initial Hekate by nwert or sweetlimre's exFAT portable is compatible with v3.x? Being able to use nx-hbmenu would also be sick but I'm not gonna hold my breath as again, I could find examples of people doing that on v4.x and v5.x.

Thank you.

I'm not a complete noob, this just seemed like the best fitting thread for Q&A. Booting Linux would be awesome, good to know I can do that if I choose. When I said 'noob-friendly', I meant that the tools that have been coming out recently are more geared towards developers. Now if you are one or planning on contributing back to the community, my apologies. I wasn't trying to say you were on the level of a noob just because of the thread's title. With that out of the way...

Hekate was first implemented for 3.0 but a lot of users were above that due to various circumstances (e.g. CFW, unreleased software exploits, younger siblings, etc.) so it got a not-so-clean update to work with the higher firmwares. Problem is Hekate was already unstable to begin with so this unstability on top of unstability. The original Hekate build is probably buried somewhere within the deeper confines of the forum, but yes it is already compatible with firmwares up to 3.0. So basically, an unstable bootloader, Hekate, was released for 3.0 and got rushed support for higher firmwares.

Yes, I apologize for how I initially responded and removed the comment about noob status. I unfortunately read your initial reply as being condescending.

Thank you for the response. No need to go digging through the forum as I've got the GitHub pages for them bookmarked. With you saying it supported up to v3.0, I suppose I'm out of luck being on v3.0.2, and figure there's no way the port closest to me for v4.x would work on v3.0.2.

Now this might not be correct as it is second hand knowledge, but I was told that >3.0.0 is effectively equal to 4.x.

I suppose there's no harm in trying. If it doesn't work, surely it wouldn't just immediately blow up my Switch. But I'll be doing some more reading beforehand just in case :rofl2:

Hi,
with the customs DNS to avoid updates, isn't it possible to use this method to update to a certain fw version ? When connecting, the system certainly check something online and somewhere.
