Can someone recommend a good comprehensive modding guide for the switch (V2 if it matters). I'm new to it all and i've been watching a lot of videos but they seem to be very specific/lack context. Alternatively if you feel like providing your own information that is appreciated as well.

If you're new to modding and don't have extensive experience with micro-soldering then I would recommend sending it to a good repairshop.
You have a V2 Switch and installing an InstinctNX or PicoFly is not for the faint of heart and in some case, some adjustments need to be made.

For the Picofly the manual is here :
https://gbatemp.net/download/a-definitive-picofly-install-guide.37968/
The Picofly is more popular here as it is something like the community supported open source modchip.

Avoid Chinese knockoffs if you consider this modchip.

For the InstinctNX, there is a thread here :
https://gbatemp.net/threads/instinct-nx-chip.628676/
But it is not as popular because it was expensive and somewhat closed source.

I've got a good amount of experience with smd soldering. I'm more worried about learning the software side.

I didn't actually come across the insinct on aliexpress. Plenty of rp2040s though. Thank you for the links ill read through .

Software side is actually easy. This used to be the recommended site for a tutorial, but it got disabled by the big N. You can still access it with wayback machine. There's also an in-house tutorial by our own @impeeza available here.

Thank you that is the guide I was looking for. How long ago was it removed? Would the info be considered up to date?

It was up-to-date but unfortunately I can see that some links have been excluded from the wayback machine, so idk if there's a way to access that specific tutorial (which is a huge bummer because it was really good)

This seems good, and they apparently have a Discord server where you could ask for help. I haven't read all of it, but I like how they explain things very thoroughly and clearly, I don't think you should have much issue with it. They also have this page : https://switch.hacks.guide/user_guide/modchip/ but I don't know much about modchips so I won't be able to help you much more than that.

Good luck ! The software side isn't really difficulty, you also don't wipe all your data so that should be fine, also pretty « easy » to avoid getting banned as long as you know what's risky or not and you seem to be very careful about what you're doing so I think you will definitely manage to get through it :)

If you have a v2 unit if you are above 4.1.0 then you would need a modchip.
