We've seen quite a few leaks, renders and mockups of the so-called "Nintendo Switch 2" recently which could indicate that the official announcement is imminent. After a period of silence, Nintendo has finally addressed these leaks. Speaking to CNET Japan, the company said something along the lines of the following (based on Google Translate): "the gaming hardware that Genki claims to be Nintendo hardware at CES is informal and not what Nintendo provided to the company."

Nintendo has also issued a similar statement to the Japanese publication Sankei. A Nintendo representative said the following to Sankei: “These images and videos are not official.”

On the other end of the leaks, Genki has provided some clarifications after stirring up the gaming community. Speaking to online outlet Game*Spark, they noted that their "Switch 2" models and accessories are based on leaks and that they have not actually seen the actual device.

This goes against what was initially implied by Genki and sows some doubt over the veracity of the leaks. We might only know the actual hardware when Nintendo decides to unveil the console, which hopefully will be in the coming months.

The motherboard itself was leaked as well as photos of a dev unit running

The only things that aren't known right now for sure are the name and user interface

Nintendo can try to smoke screen this as much as they want, but the ultimate design and hardware of switch 2 are all out in the wild at this point

We just wait now for Nintendo to pull the trigger on an actual announcement

After the Wii U I am happy Nintendo has decided to be more conventional

Hell I think we can all agree the GameCube would have done better if they used standard discs, the N64 better if they ditched cartridges, the Wii better if they had used new hardware (not a rebranded GCN)

Sometimes going against the grain doesn't work out (look at GCN and WiiU sales) and sometimes it does (Wii, NDS, Switch)

But I think incremental upgrades are the safest option and most of us will be happy just to get some more oomph out of a handheld

They kind of have to to drum up hype (more than it already is) for a Switch 2 announcement.

This feels like iPhone leaks that happens the 2-3 months before the official announcements at WWDC

I think the rumors of the joycon functioning as a mouse could be a neat gimmick without wasting a ton of money

I agree with you, I just don't think the Switch is the console to keep improving on. I wish it was any of the actual consoles you just mentioned. Backwards compatibility is going to lock them to an ARM ecosystem again with limited functionality. Would rather see their systems pump out some sick visuals, but that's not going to happen because Nintendo thinks it can't compete with the other two even though they totally can if they actually embrace industry standards and get the third parties on board.

The T239 (new tegra made for Switch 2) is supposed to be somewhere between PS4 and PS4 pro

Considering most new games can still run on that platform (PS4) the Switch 2 should fare much better than Switch 1 with playing current Gen games

If Nintendo made a powerhouse like PS5 they would lose a ton of money with minimal gain - switch is the best selling console currently being made and 3rd best selling of all time, so I think it would be a huge mistake to ditch the platform
