Nintendo has remained completely quiet as to all details about the successor console to the Nintendo Switch. Despite that, information has been trickling out, in the form of reported leaks and mock ups from those who claim to have seen the prototype Switch 2 units. Dbrand provided 3D scans of the hardware they claim to be making decals for, implying that a release of the system is somewhat soon. To add fuel to the fire, accessory maker Genki took to CES 2025, showcasing what they say are official accessories for what might be simply named the Nintendo Switch 2. Genki also brought a mock up Switch 2 that aims to show off their accessories on what they claim is modeled on the real deal.

Their mock up displays what seem to be new Joy-Cons that attach magnetically and snap into the tablet. It's stated that the new Joy-Cons also have an optical sensor. When held side-by-side with the Switch, the newer system is slightly larger, and sports a stronger u-shaped stand on the back. Just like its predecessor, it'll also feature a dock.

Furthermore, a Redditor named NextHandheld began teasing details, sharing images of what are said to be the Switch 2 dock and the insides of a Switch 2 Joy-Con rail, with certification logos present. The rumored dock will be very similar to the first, offering two USB-A, ethernet, USB-C, and HDMI. While it's a pre-production unit, the hardware simply has a Switch logo and a 2 next to it, implying that it might genuinely be named the Switch 2 when it does release. According to the leaker, a January reveal and March/April release are likely. What do you believe?

If the Switch 2 is actually called the Switch 2, then they have next to nothing to worry about because then they'd be following the Playstation school of higher number means newer console and it'll sell itself based on that name alone, though i wouldn't be suprised if these leaks are because Nintendo won't give us any details at all besides SW1 BC (The new chip and rumored 12GB RAM alone will make it harder to emulate because it's new specs to target emulating AND having to needing to allocate more RAM at a time where 16GBs is just now becoming the standard over 8GB for most desktops/laptops that the average joe will buy so 32GB would be the MINIMUM needed for the recommended specs since you'd basically have to run the emu and nothing else but your OS with 16GB.)

It IS another Switch, just slapped with the number 2, and 2 separate Cartridge Slots.

I thought I was going to finally get it, but since it's just another Switch2, I totally lost the interest as with the first one.
There are better tablets out there, with better 3rd party Bluetooth/USB-C controllers.

If I ever get a Switch 2, I'll get one when Nintendo releases the true final 5th revision of the "console", that is, if it's not easily emulated via any decent computer.

I dunno buddy, the supposed specs say otherwise from the motherboard leaks, as they kill any chance of modding the current switch emus to make it into a switch 2 emulator (The SOC is a NVIDIA Tegra T239 with a NVIDIA Ampere 1536 CUDA GPU + the supposed SK Hynix H58GE6AK8B 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, all of which is a step up from Switch 1 specs. Wow, if those specs are correct it will end up being about 50% more powerful than I originally predicted. I was estimating 8GB and 1024 Ampere cores, and people were saying I was way overestimating the specs. I guess not.

A very rough estimate, assuming a rough frequency of about ~1000 Mhz, would put it at about ~175 TOPS. That's impressive.

So if these are true, nintendo is going the same way like with the switch 1, but this time the market is full of gaming tablets and back in 2017 it was not.
So yeah, good luck Nintendo. Going the Sony way at last. A little bit more power but nothing else. A Switch on Steroids, nothing new, nothing exciting. Sad Day for me if its true.
