I've recently jailbroken a fat PS3 and I'm interested in putting a bigger internal hdd inside it. I have another PS3 which is the slim model and it's not on CFW. The slim PS3's hdd is 300gb and I want to swap that with my fat PS3's hdd which is only 80gb.

I wonder if I can just swap the hdd, format it in the boot menu and install the CFW then use it? Is there a risk of losing my CFW on the fat PS3 by doing this? The slim PS3 is on OFW 4.81. Any help would be appreciated.

if your fat ps3 is a NAND ps3 (CECHG and below) just plug the HDD and the PS3 will format it while retaining the CFW, you just need to reinstall your game managers (multiman n stuff) and other pkg's

if your fat ps3 is a NOR ps3 (CECHH and above) you need to reinstall your CFW (CFW UPDATE.PUP), then install your managers

Sorry to hijack this thread but same sort of question here. With an external hard drive for PS3 with cfw can it be used on multiple slims without any problem cause if I'm correct there not formatted to the PS3 are they?

Mine is a CECHL04, so I guess I have to reinstall the CFW. I just put the new HDD into my fat PS3 booted up in recovery mode. The system wouldn't recognize the CFW on the USB stick so I just shut it off. Should I format the new HDD on a computer before inserting it into the PS3?

I also thought about the Rebug toolbox if I might have to change system mode back to normal in order to do this?

I'm in the process now of updating the new HDD with the CFW, and it seems to be working well so far. Thanks for the help!

Edit:

I successfully formatted and updated the new 300gb HDD with CFW :D.
