Yeah that's the issue, a new O3DS XL is way over my budget as I live in South America and the prices are inflated as hell. I was looking to buy a used one, but I guess it's harder to find one under 9.2 since there's always a chance that the previous user updated it unknowingly. Oh well.

Can amazon ship to you?

Nice. Still going with 2DS since I already have my own 2DS with Ironhax and stuff so the 2DS will be more comfortable to me.

Cool; everyone is different and just like giving options. Don't get me wrong the 2ds is awesome but I love the ability to close the lid

Tip number two is get a JPN import for maximum savings then convert to your native region (make sure it is not bundled with a free pre installed game)

Are japanese 3DSXLs also available on Amazon?

So, maybe I'm just slow and don't get it - but why are 2DS' always under 9.2? If that's actually the case, I might have to find a way to get myself one!

Because they are still in production I believe. 6.0.0 was the latest system version the 3DS had when the 2DS launched I believe.

Because they're "still in production"?

...why hasn't Nintendo started bundling in later versions of the system software, then?

2ds had a max of 7.2 with pokemon bundles

Edit: and yoshi island with 7.2 as well
right which is why i said when the 2ds was launched

And Nintendo just hasn't been updating the packaged firmware?
Yep, that appears to be the case.

Do you know how production works? They are not going to unbox and update consoles

I wasn't disagreeing with you just pointing out that 7.2 was the latest

They'd have to recall all sealed, unsold units just to update their firmwares. Not very convenient. The console still asks for the update as soon as it's turned on and connected to a wireless network, but the firmware it ships with is inferior to 9.0.
