1. DO NOT USE WBFS MANAGER ON YOUR USB (Use FAT32 and WiiBackupManager)
2. DO NOT USE WII BACKUP FUSION (Use WiiBackupManager)

Also, a sysCheck report and the telling of what USB loader you use can be useful.

Also, this post belongs to Wii - Backup Loaders

He said the name of the program to use (syscheck), although you already said what we wanted to know: use D2X V8 instead - 52 and 53 are mainly for Vwii compatibility, and especially 53 is a step back in quality

That's correct

Does your disk work in other homebrew (like the HBC itself)?
It may need an Y cable for more power, or maybe it's just one that's incompatible for backup loading

Yup I tried both ports. Went to loader settings changed it too both ports.

I'm not sure how to install d2x v8?
And what do you mean does the disk work? As in playing backups cds? That works fine with neo gamma

Well there was something I came across..ios 249 and 250 it says stub?
If I need to change these I'm not sure how too?

Is it a hard drive or flash drive? Flash drive generally don't work with cIOS. The "stub" is just a shared app on the Wii that reboots the console. If your IOS 249 and 250 are stubs then that's all they'll do. The later system menu updates replace those slots with the stub link so you have to reinstall d2x.

Cyan's post here is pretty simple.

Use this syscheck. The original post tells you how to bypass a bad IOS and get the scan to complete but you should replace it with the official Nintendo one if it's invalid.

Your report looks fine. I wouldn't worry about IOS41. I think it's only used on Korean Wiis.

If you go into settings under Loader Settings you can try changing "Loader IOS" to 58 and see if that gets it to recognize the drive.

I will try that thanks

A fat 32 my memory stick then use backup manager to transfer the game. Which creates a wbfs folder with the game inside?

Also it could be the memory stick
I'm using a USB 2.0 adapter. With a 8gbmicro sd card inside it!

I connect the usb 2.0 to a 3.0 cable?
Because I've read somewhere. it will only read usb 3.0? Unless I got this wrong?

That means the cIOS the game is running under can't initialize the drive. If it's a flash drive that could be the problem.

Thanks I do have a question. I don't have a spare hard drive but..I'm using one that has stuff on it! And it's ntfs? I transfered the wbfs folder with smash bros over to it....and the hard drive detects? And I still get the black sceen when the game is loaded...

Can the hdd be formatted in ntfs? Or does it have to be fat32?

NTFS works for Wii games but not GameCube.
FAT32 is recommended.
If you're still using the same copy of Smash Bros you used with WBFS manager, try transferring over a fresh ISO or wbfs file from the original download. WBFS manager is notorious for corrupting games.

Syscheck looks fine but make sure the USB loader is set to IOS249 and the game IOS is set to default. Don't force video mode or VIDTV patch, as those can cause a black screen.
If it still doesn't work, try resetting the USB loader settings or try another loader.

I'll try but the loader had to be changed to 58. It doesn't recognise hdd at 249. And I have rested the loader before. I guess I'll try wii flow if it doesn't work

But I'll give it another try

Setting it to IOS58 will only make the loader work, it won't make games work as they still need cIOS. Setting it to IOS58 is only useful for diagnosing if it's an issue with the cIOS or not.
But what you can try is installing a d2x cIOS with IOS58 as a base, maybe the homebrew USB 2.0 driver is having some issues with your drive? IOS58 has USB 2.0 built in. Note that not every game is compatible with IOS58.
