Hi all,

First time poster so i hope this doesnt break any rules.

I have recently discovered how to jailbreak my Super NT and now ready to load up an SD card with roms.
I do not understand however what different types of Super Nintendo romsets are out there, what versions they are at (if they even work in versions) or what romset would be the most compatible for the Super NT.

Can someone please clue me up on Super Nintendo Romsets please? Im not asking for links, just information

Thanks in advance

As far as my knowledge goes, there's nothing like "romsets" for SNES roms, only regions and rom codes.
For instance (T) means translation, (U) means American Game, (E) Pal game, (J) Japanese game and (!) meaning "a perfect copy of the game" (among a plethora of other different codes).
So obviously you'd want to use your regional code alongside the exclamation mark.

If you're experienced with MAME romsets, then SNES emulation has nothing to do with it. ROM compatibility is not limited to romsets, but by emulator and how well they handle the different cartridge chips.

If by a ROMSet you mean a pack of a plethora of them in a single package, yes there is the No-Intro-based one, which can be considered the most complete of them all.

Some time ago a GoodSet was also available -I'm not sure if we can find an updated one though-, but afaik, it has been deprecated by the No-Intro-based one.

Remember that SNES/SFC games are region locked and if we were to use an old CRT TV, that would make a diference. If you're going to use a SmartTV (something more common in this days), then you have nothing to worry about, as your emulator/emulation device should take care of all that's needed to make them work properly.

Some people use one-game-one-rom sets, or 1G1R, which collect all the available games but don't have dupes for different regions, languages, revisions etc. I think you can find stuff like that on archive.org if you search for snes 1G1R

Thanks for the tips, I had never heard of either No-Intro or GoodSet. Yes im using a modern smart TV for my NT so region not a problem :yay:

There are co-processors aka "special chips" that the jailbreak can't work with since it needs more to realtime modify the rom data.
sd2snes cart can do this job on real hardware (works with snes and super nt).
there ar a lot of different romsets for snes:
  • Headered or headerless roms (depends on the copybox/dumper used to dump the game)
  • (No-)Intro
  • Trainer
  • Fast-rom modded roms
  • There's goodset that could've been used to check for known good rom checksums
  • There's pal, ntsc for clock speed and vedeo output speed
  • but theres CIC encryption that is used in some games to really do a region lock, some japanese roms wil still not work when you choose either pal or ntsc (unless you got supercic unlocked console, i'm not sure that's the case with super nt)
