No as that would be piracy you need an official game disk and a modded wii/wiiu
Was afraid of that. I already use Riivolution for Mario Kart Wii, I just don't like using the disc slot anymore. But this is worth it.

Riivolution itself is mostly just a patcher, right? Theoretically you could just debuild an ISO, replace the files, rebuild it, and play it on a USB loader or Dolphin.

That is territory I have yet to tread, to be quite honest. Worth a shot, though. Thanks for the info!

It's really really simple.
You need the Wimms ISO Tools.
After installing them and rebooting your PC so the PATH settings work (which enables you to use the wit command everywhere in Windows) you just need to cmd to a folder with your Mario Galaxy 2 wbfs file.
In case your file is named smg2.wbfs hit the following command:
Code:
wit extract smg2.wbfs temp\
Then copy the files of this mods demo to /temp/DATA/files/
(if DATA does not exist, create it)
Now you can use the following command to repack it:
Code:
wit copy temp\ "Super Mario Gravity Demo.wbfs" --id C --name "Super Mario Gravity Demo"

You can now delete the temp folder and either launch the new wbfs with dolphin or put it on an external drive for the (v)Wii.

As an additional note:
Code:
--id C
What this does is replacing the first digit of the ID of SMG2 with a C (for custom) so it has a different savegame then the main game.
So these are the IDs:
Super Mario Galaxy 2: SB4P01.wbfs (PAL)
Super Mario Gravity: CB4P01.wbfs

@lordelan for creating an ISO, should we replace/overwrite the directories or merge them?

For example, when starting with the NTSC SMG2 image, the LocalizeData folder has three directories (UsEnglish, UsFrench, UsSpanish), while the Riivolution data contains two different directories (EuEnglish, EuGerman). Before using wit again to copy back to a new wbfs image, should LocalizeData therefore contain only the 2 new directories or the 5 as a merged directory? There are other directories that, if overwritten instead of merged, would "lose" a lot of files.

tl;dr - does Riivolution merge or overwrite normally? Thank you!

anyone mind helping me? I can't seem to get it to patch correctly as when I boot it with dolphin it is either not patched or displays a black screen

Do you need more than 3 weeks?

Do you still need this? Let me know!

Everything in the mod's folder structure overwrites the actual extracted files. you're not hurting anything by simply cutting, pasting, and overwriting.
