Is the game long or short?

I read in other threads how some people found the game short, but with all the content, I didn't see how
they can say that.

What do you think?
I don't consider reusing the same levels again and tweaking them just a little counts as its own level... So I don't really get it when someone would suggest the game has alot of content.

I also don't consider re-doing the game all over again as Luigi counts either. And the 3 star Coins are merely just time sinks. No single player or online modes, just "street pass" type options that are only practical for people living in large US cities, or in Japan.

So yeah... the game was too short, and too easy, but I'm still glad I got it. Its better to have a well-done Mario game that you can 100% in 6-10 hours, than a crappy-mediocre game that you'll never beat because it sucks too much to play.

It should also be noted that level length itself felt pretty short. Alot of them I would ask myself "What? Its already over?"

I completely agree.
It seems rather short, but it's a great game none the less.

I've spent 25 hours with it. Now I've unlocked the very last level.
Yes, the special worlds are tweaked versions, but I still really enjoyed them, because they were a lot harder than the original ones.

I know it all a opinion,but 5X8= 40 stages on there own. X2 = 80+ stages
Most of what I played while using the same theme and even mixing them up into completely different levels.
Even then those "tweaks" I didn't see how you don't see that as content. I pretty sure stuff like that is
what people would buy as dlc. The coins are needed to go farther in the game to 100%
Some those levels can screw you over(the new levels even the just "tweak one" , specially if you not paying attention.
Really, I'm finding more long levels than short ones. They can easily make it harder by only allowing two to three
lives per stage, but ....uh yeah.

Pretty much you saying the extra content isn't relevant to you, so therefor it is short. Tbh,that doesn't really sound fair.
You probably can say that with any game.

While I'm still hoping for a Mario Galaxy 3ds, so far this game is fun and really feel like a handheld game.
Have not finish the game(have been off and one with another game), but I have a feeling I'm going to deem this just right.

It's too short. We need more levels as a DLC or/and level editor. Imagine making levels and sending them to gamers via spot pass.

Eh, platformers kinda delve into dangerous territory when it comes to game length. It's something you can't stretch to a typical 20 hour game length and it can't use something like solid multiplayer (see most FPS games) or solid content (kinda hard to explain but I'm thinking of Dissidia 012 for example) to keep it going. No matter what way you shape it, most platformers are a 12 hour game with lasting appeal deriving from replaying the game essentially, trying to get better times and find extras which don't really amount to too much. In Super Mario Galaxy you unlocked Luigi, but it basically just made your movement a little more slippery and you jumped a little higher. Everything was basically the same and I certainly didn't play through the entire game again as Luigi.

I guess I would say that I don't like game length of that magnitude for the price point but I'm also a bit of a hypocrite since I paid $40 for Alice: Madness Returns which was also a 12 hour platformer (or something around that, maybe closer to 8) and didn't regret my purchase.

Really though, it's hard to criticize a platformer on its length unless it's abnormally short (like less than 5 hours). There's not a lot that can be done to make the experience longer without relying on cheap tricks or filler content. Maybe I'm not one to pay $40 for a 12 hour game honestly (minus the exception) but it's a case of different folks, different strokes. It's kinda like the difference between having a big meal and a candy bar. A big meal is good and consistent and leaves you full at the end. A candy bar is a short snack but it satisfies your cravings and is great all the way through, just a bit short and leaves you craving more. Personally, if a game looks good but really short, I just wait for them go get cheaper or I borrow them from friends who have them and avoid paying money for them. You can also always play the game and trade it in for some cash or something or just use a rental service.

Hmm I have been considering getting this game but I think I might pass on it until it gets cheaper.
I only have Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon on my 3DS, it's a pretty bad quality game in my opinion so I'm going for Mario Kart 7 and Ocarina of Time 3D.

meh remeber smb1 only took approx 8mins to finish and people are complaining this is to short?

8 mins if you probably did a speed run and used glitches/alternate paths. Even then older games relied on scores and crap like that for lasting appeal, multiplayer wasn't exactly reliable and you couldn't fit terribly large amounts of content on a single cart.

Still, Multiplayer would have been a good option. In my experience ive replayed alot more platformers that have some sort of multiplayer then I have ones that dont, take NSMB it was my first DS game and I beat it in like 2 weeks, back in 5th grade. but I still played it up to 8th because it was fun to play with my friends before class.

So I just got the game. I'm pretty pleased but the fact that you can't change the controls really makes me rage. Why the hell didn't they give us the possibility to have B for acceleration + items and A for jumping, just like in EVERY 2D Mario ?

Where is that an option in other SMB games?

I'm in the 4th world, but IMO it still feels like the beginning of the game. Why? Because its the same music, the same "Look you can be tanooki Mario!" theme throughout the ENTIRE game. Its like the game is one big promo.

The levels are short, and the game feels shorter than the Super Mario Galaxies too. However, many of the special stages aren't just tweaks where you have to run away from a cosmic clone or defeat enemies to get enough time to finish, some of them are genuine alternate layouts. A couple of extra powers wouldn't have gone amiss. This game has Fire, Tanooki and Boomerang, as opposed to NSMB Wii had Fire, Ice, Spinner, Penguin and Mini Mushroom (and Yoshi!).

I think I just prefer 2D Mario games, though. I think it would be fun if they remade Super Mario World (my favourite) with modern graphics and some cool new features.

It's there in every pre-ds 2d mario game obviously, and it was present in NSMB (DS) too.

It's *only* in NSMB

So ? There has been no other super mario since. I find it dumb that they change something that had not in twenty years...

It's like suddenly they would make a bike where you have to pedal the other way...

No, it's nothing like that.
