For Europe and Australia they also released a unlimted version featuring both games on one disc. It's part of Nintendo Selects. Idk why they skipped the NA region for such an important release, but Australia for some reason also didn't got the Selects version of 3D World...

What do you mean they missed NA with the combo disc?

It's not a Nintendo Selects here. It does feature a red case. Nintendo Selects in NA have a red border around the cover art and say Nintendo Selects on them. This is just a "fancy" red case, like Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, etc.

"The title was first released on the Nintendo eShop on Wii U for region price as downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U; the game must be updated to version 1.3.0 before New Super Luigi U can be accessed in-game, and requires 731.4 MB of memory to be installed. Once downloaded, the prompt to access the Nintendo eShop to download the expansion is replaced with a prompt to go to the main menu for New Super Luigi U. Support for the Wii U Pro Controller is also included in addition to Wiimote and the Wii U gamepad controls in New Super Mario Bros. U. The game was later released at retail as a standalone game for region price, not requiring New Super Mario Bros. U to play. Both games were later released in a compilation known as New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U, initially included exclusively in the Mario & Luigi Wii U Deluxe Set bundle, but later released as a standalone Nintendo Selects disc at a price cheaper than either game individually (the precise price is dependent on the region)."

This is one of the free why I got confused

http://www.gamezone.com/news/super-luigi-u-is-the-free-dlc-that-plays-like-a-new-game

"...This game is DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U and will be brought to you for the high price of: free..."

Another reason I got confused is I misplaced the New Super Mario U disc, we used to have. That disc we bought without case. I remembered we did have free Luigi with it. Now I am trying to use the Gamestop buy 2 get 1 free promotion to repurchase this game hence the thread.
