OP
so this is a stupid question i know
but i was just eating ice i noticed some of my ps2 games
and i was wondering
would the vita be able to smoothly emulate a ps2 game if we had a emulator for it?
the vita has limited hardware and can sometimes have trouble with its own games so how possible would it be to smoothly play a ps2 game on it?

No, the Vita isn't remotely powerful enough to emulate any PS2 games.

If such an emulator were made, and optimized to the greatest extent, I doubt it would achieve anything over 5fps in any game.
ok thanks
that question was bugging me for a bit

It's a fair question, I know some people had this idea that because Sony was porting various PS2 games to the Vita, than PS2 emulation should be within the realm of possibility. But it simply isn't, there's a reason those games are ports and not an emulator, and that's simply lack of power.

Even if we were somehow able to clock the A9 ARM CPU to it's fullest extent (2ghz, vs the 444mhz it runs now) we still wouldn't get anywhere close to any kind of playable speed unfortunately.

More important question, why were you casually eating ice and why were your ps2 games within the area that you go to eat said ice?

That's just marketing BS, it's not actually even close to the power of the PS3. Going by straight GFLOPS for the hardware, the Vita hits like ~50 GFLOPS vs the ~200GFLOPS the PS3 hits with it's hardware.

Emulations, no, but ports run decent (well, at least when they're not utter garbage cough cough Jak & Daxter Collection). The Sly Cooper trilogy runs very well, with only occasional frame drops, so I don't see why anything else wouldn't work.
