Hairiness is important.

The only negative part of it is a social stigma in some parts of the world, depending on gender, and cleanliness, which is negated by how dreadfully often modern Westerners shower - especially Americans.

It keeps us warm, it keeps us dry against short bursts of rain, protect us against heat (of course, the zero law of thermodynamics will come into play at some point

), deflect the sun's rays, is seen as manly, and allows us to lock in smells (good and bad), and sweat, which is where most of our pheromones are released. Body hair makes you subconsciously more attractive. Granted, if you're fat, hairy, middle-aged, and bad-smelling, no amount of pheromones will get a girl to like you.

I'm actually not sure what the general population thinks about body hair, but I couldn't care less. It proves that, at one point, my family did adapt to their environments, and not the other way around.
