WTF is steam and why should I buy games from them?

Livin' under a rock, eh? It's somewhat a game manager where you buy games from the Steam store and the games are attached to the account. The discounts are great and right now TF2 is $9.99. They lower the prices of games to, of course, sell them.

It really is addictive. I'm absolutely loving this game so far, but I can already see it stealing many, many hours of my life.
