Steam Controller (2)
  • Steam Deck control scheme
  • Magnetic thumbsticks (TMR)
  • Grip-enabled gyro "Grip Sense"

Steam Frame
  • Inside-out tracking (not an Index upgrade )
  • Wireless
  • 2160 x 2160 LCD panels per eye, 72-144Hz

Steam Machine (2) (GabeCube)
  • 6-inch (~160mm) cube
  • Semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6C / 12T
    • up to 4.8 GHz, 30W TDP
  • Semi-Custom AMD RDNA3 28CUs
    • 2.45GHz max sustained clock, 110W TDP
  • "Entry level PC" price, whatever that means

What do you think? I'll definitely be picking up the Steam Controller, and I love the new Steam Machine form factor!

The Steam Frame though... it gives me hope for a better Linux SteamVR future, if anything.

Im stoked. I'll probably skip the machine because I have a gaming PC and a handheld PC that I dock to my PC

The controller seems like a great companion for couch gaming though.

I'm most excited about the frame. I don't know if I'll get one because I have a quest 3, but the snapdragon 8gen 3 is a super capable chip and the wireless streaming stick also seems like a major improvement over something like virtual desktop

The stuff they are doing with the Intel Windows to ARM Linux translation layer seems very interesting to me. Not because of the product where they put it on this time around (a VR headset), but regarding future products for which they could use it.

This is exciting honestly. I think the Machine will do really well*, and I kinda like the exploratory form factor of the controller. Reminds me a lot of the innovative Nintendo days.

* Really well in Valve terms. I think that it won't be the biggest standalone thing, but with Steam being so popular and customizable, a machine with even 80% of library compatibility will be great for people who don't have the budget for super builds.

Massively underpowered GPU with only 8GB of VRAM, no upgradeable parts, and according to GamersNexus, will be priced higher than the consoles, including the PS5 Pro. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

And as a device that runs the shitty SteamOS, it cannot run Battlefield 6, Stalker 2, Black Myth: Wukong, etc., etc. Here's a list of over 8000 PC games it cannot run.

The fact that this is a 1080p device for playing circa 2020 AAA games but won't even be as powerful as a base PS5 and won't be upgradeable like a real PC makes this dead on arrival. Only fools will purchase this obsolete-on-debut device.

I just wished we got more colors with new consoles and controllers. Miss the times with Gamecube and N64 transparent consoles. I was hoping that Switch 2 would have colored XYAB-buttons, since there were rumors that it would have.

Well, it looks like the colours on the Machine only extend to replaceable face plates, sadly. All the rest looks to be completely black, unless they come up with special editions like they did with the Deck.

I'll wait to see the pricing and reviews, but I might sell my Quest 3S and get a Steam Frame instead. If the price is reasonnable and the User Experience is great too, I might get one (being a PC instead of a phone, it might be better for what I want to do with it)

Also unsupported doesn't mean unplayable, it just mean the devs haven't gotten the verified status.

Also, while some multiplayer games do not support SteamOS due to publishers forcing ancient versions of anti-cheat software for the sole purpose of explicitly not supporting SteamOS, Valve doesn't stop anybody from installing Microsoft spyware on their machine.

I'll wait until the actual prices are announced. As far as the GPU goes, it seems to be comparable to a 3060 Ti, but less power-hungry. Nothing for enthusiast, but absolutely capable of running current games on medium settings in 4K.

The GameCube has returned!! 🎉🎉

I plan to wait on Steam Deck 2. Even when I get new hardware, Ill still be running shit at 720p and maxing settings as far as I can go. That said, the new Steam Machine looks good. LOVE the cube shape and face plates! I can only imagine the level of creativity people will have with this.

Slick. I'll definitely have to grab the new controller for the novelty of it if nothing else. The GabeCube might be something I pick up in a few years once I'm forced to downgrade to Win11 on my main PC, since I was planning on building a secondary Linux machine anyway. Will be a great entry point for console gamers looking to make the change too.

I'll probably skip the GabeCube because I have a capable PC, but the controller and steam frame look great. I use the trackpads a lot on my Deck for radical menus and mouse-heavy games or for games where i dont feel like using flick stick + gyro and wanna combine trackpad aiming with gyro. If Valve gets the ergonomics right for medium sized hands like my own this'll be peak.

The Frame also will be my first VR headset. The biggest feature to me, besides foveated streaming, is how it'll be able to run x86 games through FEX which explains why valve employees have been contributing heavily to the project. If this can somehow run Half-Life Alyx or heavier games I won't have to rely on my PC back home for gaming when I'm at university. Very exciting!
