Gaming Steam (etc) games on mini pc

I will Soon get a mini pc. It is an Acer wich i Think have about 1.6 MHZ and 1/2gb memory.
My question is: since it not has a DVD player, can i download (low-spec) games from steam etc and play them?

Additional question: can i use an external Dvd player to play retail games?

Yeah, I think you would be able to.
You can just search Steam for some Indie games (normally they are low spec) and on the game page it will tell you what you need to run it.

You can play old games like Counter-Strike 1.6, and the original Half-Life just fine.

Yes but they tend to be slower due to running off a USB, the transfer rate is not as fast as an internal drive for reading and writing speeds.

If you have some retail games that you want to play using the disc drive all the time, you can get a DVD burner and use a program like Daemon Tools Lite to create an ISO image of your game, it will store the game on your hard drive and you just have to mount it as a virtual drive and the game will run. I have done this for games like StarCraft on my netbook, which require you to have a disc in, however you can do it without it so long as you created the ISO image with a legal copy of the game and it is perfectly legal to do so as long as you are using a valid CD key that came with the game (if required).

EDIT: The required system specs are 1 GHz procesor and 256 MB of RAM. It should work then?

I have one, as a matter of fact it is the only computer I have, but it's so powerful I don't even need anything else (except for the external DVD player/writer). I have 1GB of RAM, Intel Atom processor but I can play a bunch of games perfectly! Some lag, but not that much. Of course, you won't be able to play stuff like WoW (although I'm not sure about that one since I don't play it) and CoD: MW2, but the regular shooter or MMORPG should work perfectly!

BS! I had a eee pc 900. Before its SSD dyed, I played KOTOR (off an external hdd) just fine. Mine had the Celeron m cpu and 2gbs of ram. With some miner setting changes it played just fine and even looked better than it's xbox counter part.

Yes it would indeed work, I have a really old laptop from about 2000. Its by compaq and has a Intel processer (i think about 1.7ghz)
and only has 768mb of RAM. I can run Counter-strike (and halflife), Warcraft III (on low-mid settings), and more.

So your mini-pc should be able to run steam games (of low req).
