Homebrew Sporadic game freezing on DS via R4

I have been played Advance Wars Dual Strike and Animal Crossing WW on my R4, and both games have frozen either mid play or during loading when the screens are blackened a couple times

These are the only 2 games I have played intensively so far

Both my R4 and DS Lite seem to be working fine, and my micro sd is a kingston japan 1gb, so I am not sure what the problem is


could anyone help me out with this? having occasional freezes is lovely in games where I lose hours of progress

I would suggest formating your micro sd to fat and 64k cluster. It could also be the roms that is the problem, try getting the rom somewhere else.

It is formatted as fat, but how do I format to 64k cluster exactly?

also, these 2 backups are from a prominent website that many people get theirs from, i dont see why the files themselves would be a problem, but is there any sort of beneficial modification that can be done?

it happened to my M3simply with R4 firmware 1.10 (for zelda).
I don't know if it's my SD Card, R4 firmware, or because it's an R4 converted to M3DSS.

Now I have updated to M3simply firmware 1.07 (not R4 1.11 -> M3).
It seems to be working.


Which firmware version are you using, are you on 1.11?
maybe 1.10 is freezing even on R4.

downloaded and applied 1.11, played AC:WW for a few hours and then bam, 2 hours of gameplay gone as the black loading screen remained black permanently

What could be the problem here? I really cant do anything until I fix this

i've also been having issues like you described with animal crossing and pokemon pearl. it also froze once or twice on other games, but the fact that you get scolded by resetti has pretty much made me abandon playing. o and i've been using 1.11 too.

Squeeze a piece of paper on the DS cartridge slot. Just to make sure the cart is firmly in place.
Not bad to test if it works, right?

you know i actually considered that earlier today, that and doing the same for the micro sd slot (risk seems to be a bit riskier). i used to put a baseball card between the cartridge and the NES slot and that sort of worked back then. i mean if the contacts are the issue, i guess i'd be somewhat relieved that its not the micro sd or anything.
