A Teenager Made a MySpace Replica and It’s Honestly Pretty Sweet

https://nerdist.com/article/myspace-replica-spacehey-social-networking-nostalgia/

There are too many social networking platforms taking up space in our brains. From TwitterOpens in a new tab and Facebook to LinkedIn and Reddit—not to mention the many, many more—it’s all a bit overwhelming. The ebb and flow of social media popularity always brings back wistful memories of the platform that really started it all. We can’t actually go back to the 2007 glory days of MySpace. But we can replicate it. And a German teenager named An actually pulled it off with SpaceHey.

This is how SpaceHey describes itself: “SpaceHey is a retro social network focused on privacy and customizability. It’s a friendly place to have fun, meet friends, and be creative.”

Sure, it’s a little painful to see the word “retro” in a redesign of a social media network that launched in 2003. (MySpace isn’t even 20 years old yet!) But time does move in mysterious ways. An told Vice Opens in a new tabin 2021Opens in a new tab that while they weren’t old enough to use MySpace during its heyday, the platform’s creative license was very appealing. After all, we are talking about a platform that along with Tumblr, Geocities, and Neopets, served as the premier “Intro to Coding” classOpens in a new tab. Luckily, MySpace Tom has a genuine fan in An, who even lists the MySpace co-founder as his hero on his own SpaceHey pageOpens in a new tab.

SpaceHey specifically includes so many of the early-’00s featuresOpens in a new tab that have largely gone the way of flip phones. Users can customize their profiles using HTML and CSS (of course), and browse the site’s bulletins, blogs, and forums. Plus this is a social networking site so there’s also room for the tried and true instant message. Most importantly, SpaceHey is devoid of ads, algorithms, and anything else that curates the space for you. After all, per the site, SpaceyHey is “just a safe space for you and your friends to hang out online!” A fun place to just vibe out and have a good time? Sounds like the best place.

Now many people are join SpaceHey and going over 1.4 millions and growing! Wow! I can't believe that!

This SpaceHey don't have AI, tracking, ads, etc like extra unwanted layers added to it. That's right No BS about AI problems!

Facebook, Instagram, X (was Twitter), Threads, etc have sh*t backdoor due to AI, tracking, Ads, etc to collect info from you and people! Anyone know that? Right?

Bingo and huge victory to crush Facebook, Instagram, X (was Twitter), Threads, etc away in trash because due to lot of problems on AI (Artificial intelligence)! Many people are frustration and very anger on AI give many, many problems to everyone! Yes! We blame on AI often time which give warning to you and us like false about "fact checking"! That's right! We and people are hate AI often that give us a lot of drama and hassles! Take AI out! Death to all AI! Amen! Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Threads, etc companies with AI will going out of business in few years! Time to switch and manage to move on from now to the future to forget about AI problems away. Good bye, bye to AI to death! Yay!

Time to party on! Happy for old school social website is back! :yay: :toot::hrth:

Just make sure you're not using your actual email address and the same password for every account in case of a data breach. Best to make a temp email if you're going to sign up to these nostalgia revival services.
holy shit that's a very smart idea, thank you so much!

I actually know a user from a Misskey that has a profile on SpceHey.

I have 0 memkry of MySpace tho, so....

wanted to share my spacehey if anyones interested: https://spacehey.com/profile?id=3420644 preview: View attachment 490922
wanted to say that i deleted my account, spacehey has a neat premice but if you're there long enough you'll realize that the moderation isn't great in some areas and people be pretty darn nasty, so i do advise anyone that goes to try and give people in charge some feedback on how things can be better if you come across something you don't like (be nice though)

I don't know that SpaceHey have very strict rules. I don't want to add friends to strange people I never know. Someone end up force add other strange people as friends then get in big trouble like scam, spam, harass, stalker, cyberbully and go on. I saw most people report on Reddit said they get banned very faster for no reasons. Most people complain on SpaceHey, they send messages to tech support in email and they are ignore them! I better stay away from SpaceHey when company change to better service, more better tech support, and go on. I stay away from SpaceHey for now. I never create my account there yet, because I still on hold for longer time. :( Not sure about future maybe change it. If anyone have very bad expericene and please let us know your story about SpaceHey anytime between now and in the future.

i agree i really hope they do change for the better but i notice with revivals of old websites like this that they tend to have a lack of moderation, vidlii has a similar issue but to a more absurd degree, but the problems with spacehey in general definitely is within it's members, you know it's bad when i see blogs on the first page titled "maybe we shouldn't kill all pdfs", "I hate men",
"i dont like trans people" they just felt like posts being contraversial for the sake of it with nonsubtle projection in it or just obvious ragebait.

in terms of personal interactions with members, i didn't really have many however there was this one guy who was dealing with severe mental health problems along with stuff irl, i typically gave him support and stayed with him in dms when he needed someone there becuase i was afraid he was going to hurt himself, before i left the app i gave him and a few others ways of contact if they ever needed me, then deleted my account, then i got a comment on one of my youtube videos of someone accussing me of blocking them and then i pieced together who it was and what happened

so i explained that i sent him a message before i left but i guess it got deleted along with my account and that he could message me on discord if he needs me, i also apologized, then he deleted his comment after my reply and never got back to me, while i do think it was wrong of him to accuse me instead of asking me what happened i do hope wherever he is, that he's doing okay.

i guess you could chop this up to spacehey being a place where some people who are dealing with alot go to cling onto a place similar they once resonated with and a place people shove their contraversial ideologys and opinions into the second point is ultimately less understandable as one of the main rules on that platform is to be respectful and one of my posts expressed how it's very clear that people just come there with malice for literally no reason and granted thats gonna be everywhere on the internet but man that platform really drained me out...
