so is there no more sysnand mode? I just installed and wondering how to play gba cia's on my n3ds
Use minipasta

Do what @subcon959 said to install the gba games and the patched agb_firm to your sysnand. Once that is done you should be able to launch the games from your emunand (you will need to have them and the patched agb_firm installed to emunand as well)

*snip*

Wrong fuckign thread... piece of shit laptop

Unsure wether I should migrate to Rei from RxTools or not, since Rei is being updated frequently it seems like a good bet. From what I've read Rei is not region-free, right? So I guess all the games which aren't RF-patched will stop working if I don't install them again with free multi patcher.

just tried it. Installed the arg firm and games via mini pasta through fbi, then installed again on emunand 10.4 via fbi. Still no luck. :\ My pokemon Red version worked but none of the gba games

Did you change the destination to NAND before isntalling agb_firm?

You don't need to install them again. Freemultipatcher is a cia tool that needs to be run every time you reboot your n3ds, it patches region free and then your games reappear in home menu.

It all depends on what you want. You like ds carts, Gba, dsiware in Emunand? Then go for reinand. Also it has newest emunand while rxtools still is behind. You want region free without patch and don't care about booting to sysnand for ds/gba and also don't want newest emunand? Stay on rxtools.

Thing is, you can patch region but you can't patch gba/ds in cfw, so I'd rather have the reinand approach.

You can always just look for regionfree patched titles, then they'll also appear without freemultipatcher. Only completely out of region titles that were not patched will disappear.

You gave me a very thorough answer and I thank you for that. Without thinking about it too much it seems like Rei is a better choice for me, I can always get RF-patched CIAs as you write. You say I can play GBA etc. in Emunand using Rei, isn't that possible with RxTools also? By patching agb_firm in both Sysnand and Emunand. If not then I might have misinterpreted the process. I don't want to boot into sysnand except when needed as I'm sure you understand.

From what I understand, DSiWare and GBA game loading on rxTools is broken at this time.

thanks

Just to clarifiy, the agb_firm goes in NAND, the games themselves go to SD.

Yes. Cia to destination sd. Agb patch to destination nand. And that on both sysnand and Emunand.

got one of the games to load, about to install the rest. thanks a bunch fellas!

The only downside IMO to GBAvc/injection is IIRC it stretches to full screen. Retroarch allows 1:1 pixel emulation, and nice crisp text. Of course some games may have some FPS niggles, which for many is key. I enjoy being able to remap controls as well.

Yes, exactly. If you have cia files that are already region-free patched, or even better out of your own region, you won't have a problem.
RxTools does not run GBA VC out of EmuNAND in the current nightlies on N3DS. Only the old version 10-02 does this, but this also has no regionfree.
