Right... Slap a ridiculous price tag on it (OVER $9000) and say that the price doesn't make or kill a platform.
Seriously though, they still shouldn't overprice the damn thing, or there wouldn't be as many people buying it. There's this thing called affordability...
Kid: HEY MOM DAD GET ME A NGP PLEASE
Parents: How much is it?
Kid: IT ONLY COSTS
Parents: No.
I have a feeling their demographic is more for the adult audience and not really that "broad" appeal Nintendo went for. It's probably aimed at the people who are willing to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on gaming stuff. It feels like the PSP kinda became that way, with most of the games aimed at a "core" audience.
Guild, professorial athletes don't need to have their egos inflated anymore by carrying around an overpriced piece of Sony awesomeness. [/half kidding]

Well I mainly meant the people who have the money to spend thousands of dollars on high end gaming computers or hundreds of dollars for a fight stick. When it comes to gaming, they're willing and wanting to shell out top price.
Of course I have a rather limited income and can't really do that but I'd still buy a NGP myself unless the price was like over $400.
it depends on how high the price is. If the 3ds was $400 then ppl would have thought twice about it but since its around 300 or less, AND the features (even if in the future) justify it.
NGP (next geohot project in other words) wouldnt seem to justify the price at more than $300. Its about how ppl can use it that ppl put a price on it and not how much the hardware, software, work etc costs which is the viewpoint of the producers.
Nintendo with the 3DS put 3D implemented in a simple way (unlike having a super screen with required glasses) which reduced costs and this is exactly what i feel sony should have done (if they havent already)
then again, i dont think the NGP will be that expensive that this statement was solely made for it
Yes, the price does matter. The reasons the 3DS is selling well enough is:
1) Because it's Nintendo.
2) 3D without glasses.
3) It's the next gen.
4) For what it does, it does very well.
However, can the same be said of the NGP? If it works as well as Sony says it does, will it be worth it? Perhaps, or perhaps not. Afford-ability is a very big issue with new tech, and it's one of the reasons a $400+ price tag won't fly with the average consumer. I can name all the titles that would make me buy a NGP, and all of them sadly won't happen.
After all the recent happenings, going with Sony is going to be hard for many people. So, they're screwing themselves over before the NGP gathers up steam.
Considering that Sony recently closed some factories from this past incident, they could just be covering their bases should the worse happen. They want to release it, but this past incident might have put a dent into their original plan/price/etc in the long run. We'll just have to wait and see.
And coming in 2012 the PSP2 Slim. Now 20% slimmer and lighter with slightly less battery life. But don't worry, we'll sell you a $50 Stamina Battery...
Because all fanboys are idiots and someone is bound to claim "TEH BIAS" lets list the NDS and iPhone revisions
Nintendo DS = 2004
Nintendo DS Lite = 2006
Nintendo DSi = 2008
Nintendo DSi XL = 2009 (not really an upgrade but rather an alternative option for the old folks)
Nintendo 3DS = 2011
