Today at SXSW Gaming, SEGA have announced what previous rumours have speculated - Sonic Mania Plus is coming this Summer 2018 as a physical release with an exclusive 32-page art book.

Sonic Mania Plus will feature 2 new playable characters - Mighty (last playable appearance in Knuckles' Chaotix (1995)) & Ray (last playable appearance in the arcade title SegaSonic the Hedgehog (1993)).

Features:

• Mighty the Armadillo & Ray the flying squirrel as playable characters
• Holographic slip cover
• Reversible Genesis/Mega-Drive style cover art
• New "Encore" game-mode
• 4-player competition mode
• Exclusive 32-page art book

Sonic Mania Plus will release this summer for $29.99.

What about different sprites already?
The Sonic 2 sprites look awful to me, might as well gives us the option already to choose between S1, S2 and S3 styled-sprites for fuck's sake.
Give us the option, or at least make it an unlockable.

(Oh and I know about Sonic 3XP, I just want to be able to play like S3 sprites in a console and without the need of mods)

this is supposed to be classic 2d sonic games.
amy though, well, yah i could see her in the game rocking her classic design but have a modified version of her advance 1 moveset.

Shadow isn't a classic character so that's that and Amy who cares the this only other time Ray the squirrel has been in a game playable since Segasonic The Hedgehog
