Looks like it was the hard drive, it found a lot of errors while it was checking and fixed them. I've left it on for awhile with somethings on, and it hasn't crashed, nor has the temp gone to a very hot level.

Thank you :).

Glad I can help :)

It's also something you can look into, if you know a bit of computer stuff, it's very easy to get a HDD replacement because of what you found (just need to word yourself carefully when you talk to HP).

It could be software reasons why the HDD had bad blocks, it could be factory defects, or it could have spawned after you bought it (hardware deteroriation which is very unlikely). If you can convince them that the defects were from factory produced (you may not even have to lie considering how long you had the laptop for), they will hand you another HDD. Hopefully, this one would be free from defects and it's like starting out new.

Freezing where the screen doesnt respond typically either means HDD I/O error (which is what your error logs showed) or graphics memory issue. If the mouse could still move, then it would be a CPU cache problem instead of a graphics problem. If it BSOD or just shut down, that's when it gets harder to pinpoint a specific cause because there tends to be several.

Anyway, glad you got it working. If you have any more problems, you'd better call up the retailer you got the laptop from for the warranty. Defective laptops are bad, especially if they show problems in the first few weeks.
