Android Some Questions

I got my self a HTC Inspire 4g today. I have some questions.

1. is there any way to unblock the installation of apks not from the market? I'm not asking how, just is there a way,

2. Is there no portrait in the menu?

That is about it.

1) Go to Settings -> Applications. Check off the box for "Unknown Sources".
2) You mean background on your homescreens? You can change the background by selecting any photo on your phone and setting them as your background.

At&t blocks sideloading, the option is not there, that's why you have to do follow the link I posted

Actually I found out how to side-load with AndroidCentral Sideload Wonder Machine

Sideloading works fine. I did it myself with the Sideload Wonder Machine.

Best option, however is to follow some hacking instructions to get it rooted, but instead of installing something like Cyanogen (I personally didn't like it as much as the stock ROM) install a modified stock ROM like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406 Been looking for a newer version though, since that one is apparently not up to date.

Well I don't plan on rooting if I can sideload just fine.

But that cuts you out of being able to get free apps from the Amazon Appstore.

but you can only sideload when connected to a computer with the sideload wonder machine

the point of rooting to get sideloading is to be able to use the amazon app store or *snip or just download some random apk off the web and installing it, from your phone

i'd recommend checking out the XDA-developers ROM section for a ROM you want to use if you aren't happy with the one in the video

I would strongly suggest getting a ROM not based on HTC Sense if you intend on gaming. All HTC Sense ROMs can't sync up with Wiimotes and use them as controllers.

This is a fact I just discovered today.
